NWCC Rangers drop division contest to Itawamba

Northwest fell to 7-3 overall and 0-2 in the MACJC north division, while Itawamba improved to 6-3 and 2-0.
Sanders, a freshman from Tunica, scored 20 of his game-high 26 points in the second half and came through when the Rangers needed him most. Sanders helped Northwest recover from an 11-point, second half deficit by scoring nine points in a span of three minutes to cut the Itawamba margin to 50-49 with 12:18 remaining.
The Rangers hung close and tied the contest at 67-67 when freshman guard Everick Morris of Olive Branch scored a basket after making a steal in the backcourt.
Itawamba won the game by converting five-of-six free throws in the final two minutes.
Sanders made 12 of 23 attempts from the floor. He also added four assists and four rebounds.
Northwest sophomore guard Justin Gillard of Oxford chipped in with 18 points, while Akeem Anderson of Memphis added nine, and Reggie Brown of Olive Branch scored eight.
Anderson led the Rangers with 12 rebounds, while Brown grabbed eight.
Northwest will play in the Florida Gulf Coast Classic Dec. 28-30 in Panama City, Fla.
