NWCC Rangers Defeat Coahoma

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers flexed some offensive muscle and pounded the Coahoma Lady Tigers 104-53 Jan. 18 in Clarksdale.

Northwest, which has won five of its last six games, improved to 7-4 overall. The Lady Rangers remain tied for first place in the MACJC north division with a 4-1 mark.

Lady Ranger guard De’Kisha Fondon of Water Valley sparked a scoring outburst by knocking down three consecutive three-point shots to fuel a 47-13 run by Northwest.

Fondon finished the contest with a game-high 29 points. Brandy and Brittany Walls, both of Red Banks, each added nine points for the Lady Rangers. Joi Guy of Olive Branch led Northwest with eight rebounds.

The Lady Rangers travel to Muscle Shoals, Ala., Jan. 23 to face Northwest Shoals.

Mens’ Game

It didn’t look as though the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers had any chance of ending their seven-game losing streak in the first half of their contest with the Coahoma Tigers Jan. 18 in Clarksdale.

Fueled by the only sophomore on their roster, Northwest rallied behind guard Justin Gillard of Oxford who scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Rangers to a thrilling 92-86 victory. Northwest improved to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in the MACJC north division.

Northwest travels to Muscle Shoals, Ala., Saturday, Jan. 23 to battle Northwest Shoals. The contest tips off at 4 p.m.
