Dr. Walker Offers Heart Health Tips To Yalobusha Homemakers

Dr. Joe W. Walker will speak to the Yalobusha Homemakers  on heart health on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m. at the Multi-purpose Building in Coffeeville.

 

 Booster Club Announces February 11 Meeting

 The Water Valley Football Booster Club will have a meeting Thursday, February 11, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Mechanics Bank Community Room. All members or prospective members are urged to attend.

 

United Blood Services Holds Blood Drive At High School

United Blood Services will hold a blood drive Thursday, Feb. 18, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Water Valley High School Gym. UBS is this area’s non-profit community blood provider serving patients in Mississippi and West Alabama.  

It takes over 250 blood donations everyday to meet the needs of area patients. Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional  height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 must have signed permission from parents or guardian. The office is open 7 days a week at United Blood Services in Tupelo at 4326 S. Eason Blvd.

 

Magnolia Youth League Announces Registration Dates For Baseball, Softball

  The Magnolia Youth League will begin registration for baseball and softball on Saturday, February 20, for boys and girls ages 3 through 15. Registration will continue on Saturday, February 27, and Saturday, March 6.

    Registration will be at the Crawford Sports Complex and for any registration after March 6 there will be a $20 late fee. Anyone having questions may contact Jeff Bynum at 473-3269 or Tommy Edwards at 473-7275.

 

Horse Shows Offer Free Family Fun

The horse show season has started at the Yalobusha County Multi-purpose Building. The first few horse shows will be timed-events, with the next show scheduled February 13, at 4 p.m. The shows provide great family entertainment and are free and open to the public.  For more information, call the Yalobusha County Extension office at 675-2730.

 

4-H Club Announces Shooting Sports Meeting

Interested in learning gun safety and competing with other children around your age?

The Yalobusha Extension Service 4-H invites the public to the next scheduled 4-H Shooting Sports meeting on February 25 at 6 p.m. at the Multi-purpose Building in Coffeeville.

Local Artists Display Jewelry, Pottery And Art Work At Bozarts

Bozarts Gallery at 403 Main Street is showing work by The Alliance, a group of artists dedicated to supporting and promoting the arts in Water Valley. The Alliance exhibition runs until February 27. Opening hours are Friday and Saturday from noon – 5 pm, and by appointment: 473-2484.  

On display is jewelry, pottery, and new art work by Anissa Wilkinson, William Warren, Aynslee Moon, Lyn Kartiganer, Nicole Gladden, Hanne Gaycken, Gabriella DeLawey, Pati D’Amico, Angela G. Clanton, Kay Bounds and Andi Sherill Bedsworth.

 

Bruce Church Hosts Pot Luck Lunch, Governor’s Assistant On February 17

    Pleasant Grove Baptist Church’s Pleasant Agers will host Charles Pittman, Staff Assistant to Governor Haley Barbour, at a potluck lunch February 17, at 11:30 a.m.

    Pastor Ron Jenkins invites everyone to attend. The church is located four miles west of Bruce at 139 CR 231.

 

Masonic Chapters Announce February Meeting Date

  McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM & J.J. Melton Council No. 50 will hold their regular scheduled meetings in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle Thursday, February 11, beginning at 7:30 p.m. All members of these two Masonic Bodies are encouraged to attend.

 

VFW Schedules Friday Bingo Action

  VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, February 12. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6, and the first of 24 games begins at 7. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

 

Sexton Band Performs At VFW During Saturday Night Dance

  Saturday night, February 13, VFW Post 4100 welcomes everyone to a musical night of entertainment by The Sexton Band. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us in listening, or dancing, to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” stated Commander Sam Phillips. Faith Christian Church Offers Valentine Babysitting Services

  During the Faith Christian Church—”Night Out”, the youth, under adult supervision are offering babysitting services on Friday night, February 12, from 6-11 p.m. at the church. The cost is $20 per child, ages 3 years to sixth grade.

City Closes Offices For President’s Day Holiday

All City of Water Valley office and departments will be closed Monday, February 15, for President’s Day holiday.

Monday’s garbage route will run with Tuesday’s garbage route

 

Extension Service Offers Master Gardener Certification

Yalobusha County Extension Service will offer Master Gardener Certification each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m. in February and March provided five people sign up to attend.  Extensive training will be given in the field of horticulture. The training will be held at the Multi-purpose Building.  

This training will cost $85 and will include registration, a notebook and refreshments.  This also covers first year of membership.  There is a Master Gardener Program in the county and anyone interested in gardening of any kind is encouraged to attend.  Please call the Extension office at 675-2730 to pre-register, or for additional information.
