NWCC Lady Ranger softball teams sweeps Jackson State

Shortstop Mandy Bolden collected three hits and scored three runs to lead the Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Ranger softball team to a 7-6 victory against the Jackson State Lady Generals in the first game of a doubleheader March 23 in Senatobia.

Northwest claimed the second game 9-1 for its sixth consecutive win. The Lady Rangers improved to 10-6 overall.

Bolden, a sophomore from Holly Springs, was credited with three of Northwest’s eight hits in the opening contest. Sophomore second baseman Haylei Plummer of Pope added a team-high two RBI.

The Lady Rangers broke a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning by pushing three runs across the plate.

Northwest freshman pitcher Lauren Kendall of Boyle improved her record to 2-0 by striking out two and walking two.

In the second game, Northwest sophomore first baseman Angela Carden of Southaven led the way offensively with three hits, while Kendall added three RBI. Kendall, Plummer, and freshman Kayla Wilson of Horn Lake collected two hits each. The Lady Rangers racked up 13 hits in the contest.

Northwest freshman pitcher Magen Fullwood of Shiloh, Tenn., upped her record to 6-2 by allowing just one hit in four innings of work.

After traveling to Fulton Wednesday, March 24 to face Itawamba, the Lady Rangers return to Senatobia Thursday, March 25 to host Holmes at 2 p.m.
