State Duck Stamp And Print Available July 1

JACKSON – Waterfowl hunters can get an early start on the season by purchasing their 2010-11 state duck stamp.

The stamp will be available for purchase July 1 and features an image of a drake and hen mallard. The photograph was taken by award-winning photographer Joe Mac Hudspeth, Jr. of Brandon.

The resident state stamp ($10 for residents) is required by law for waterfowl hunters, along with a valid Mississippi license that covers small game and a federal duck stamp. A Sportsman’s, small game or all game hunting license is also acceptable. You can purchase an electronic stamp from any license agent and physical stamps may be purchased in the Jackson office.

Proceeds from the sale of state duck stamps pay for habitat improvements on Mississippi Wildlife Man-agement Areas, conserve breeding habitat in Canada and improve the understanding of waterfowl and wetland through scientific research. Prints of the stamp can purchased from Hudspeth by calling 601-992-0752 or by visiting his Web site, www.southernfocus.com.
