Registration Starts Saturday For NFL Flag Football
Registration for NFL Flag Football will be held Saturday, October 2, and Saturday, October 9, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Crawford Sports Complex. There will be girls and boys leagues for ages 6-7, 8-9, and 10-12. Registration fee is $45. Call Lance Clement (473-2582) or Jeff Bynum (473-3269) if you have any questions.
Mark Your Calendars For Monthly Open Mic Reading Series
Fall Into Poetry!, a community open mic reading series, resumes on the first Wednesday of every month. Mark your calendars for Oct. 6, Nov. 3, and Dec. 1.
The next reading takes place at Bozarts gallery in Water Valley on Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Come out for an evening of poetry and music with featured reader Beth Spencer, a poet on the faculty at the University of Mississippi; musical guest Bobby Billingsley, a gospel and bluegrass musician from Como; and of course, you — the poets who make each open mic a unique and surprising event!
Lions Club Cooks Pancakes Saturday Morning
The Water Valley Lions Club will host its monthly first Saturday pancake breakfast on October 2, between the hours of 6:30 and 9 a.m. This will be held in the Depot Building on Main Street. For only $5 per plate you may enjoy all you want of pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice.
The club has just received a new shipment of cheese and this may be purchased on Saturday morning, or by contacting a club member anytime.
Davidson Class Of 1967 Hosts Fish Fry
Members of the Davidson High School Class of 1967 will host a fish fry Saturday, October 9, beginning at 11 a.m. The plates will cost $6.50 each. Each plate will have fish, spaghetti, slaw, hushpuppies, desert and a drink. All proceeds will go toward class projects and scholarship funds for the 2010 school year. This event will be held in the Miles Memorial Church Activity Center on Simmons Street, Water Valley.
Christmas Parade Will Roll Down Main On December 4
The annual Water Valley Christmas parade will be Saturday, December 4th starting at 1 p.m. The rain date will be the following Saturday, December 11, if needed.
All churches, businesses, factories, school groups and individuals are urged to participate in the parade. To register a float or a decorated golf cart or a four-wheeler with a decorated trailer, contact J.C. Womble at 473-3190 or Bobby Murphree at 473-2501. The parade is sponsored by the Tri-Lake Fairground Association.
Arts Council Sponsors Singing In City Park
On Saturday, October 16 at 2:30 in the afternoon, City Park will be filled with the sounds of Water Valley citizens singing together. Books of lyrics will be handed out to help those who usually mumble along to beloved hymns and old favorite popular songs.
A music exchange bulletin board will offer a place for music teachers, hopeful music pupils, or sellers and buyers of instruments and sheet music to post notices. In case of rain, the First Christian Church has offered shelter. BRING A CHAIR! The event is sponsored by the Arts Council of the Water Valley Main Street Association.
Annual Walker Cemetery Cleaning Set For October 2
The annual Walker Cemetery cleaning will be held Saturday, October 2. All family and friends are invited to come early with yard tools for cleaning and your favorite covered dish to share during the lunch fellowship.

Business Meeting Set At Paris Memorial Cemetery
The annual business meeting for the Paris Memorial Cemetery will be held Saturday, October 2, beginning at 11 a.m. After the short business meeting, a pot luck lunch will be served. If you have family buried at Paris, please come and support the cemetery.
Health Department Invites Public To Open House
The Yalobusha County Health Department invites the public to an open house on Thursday, September 30, in the Yalobusha County Health Department Conference Room. The office is located at 645 South Main Street in Water Valley. Refreshments will be served from two until four o’clock in the afternoon. During the open house, the staff will be introduced and you will have an opportunity to tour the new facility. Maxine Brock is the county nurse for the Mississippi Department of Health in Yalobusha County.
Arts Council Schedules October Meeting
The Water Valley Arts Council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, October 5 at 6:30 at the Water Valley Main St Association office at 207 Main Street.
The meeting is opened to the public and creative ideas are always welcome. The meeting’s agenda will include discussion regarding membership, fundraisers, and feedback from the Art Crawl. For more info contact Bill Warren at 473-0972.
Pink Ladies Announce Weekend Yard Sale
The Yalobusha General Hospital and Yalobusha County Nursing Home Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) will have their yard sale Friday, October 1, and Saturday, October 2, at 709 Airways Acres Dr. (follow signs). This sale will benefit the hospital and nursing home. Available will be lots of good stuff!
VFW Makes Plans For Friday Bingo Action
VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, October 1. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6, and the first of 24 games begins at 7. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
Public Is Invited To VFW Dance
Saturday night, October 2, VFW Post 4100 welcomes you to a musical night of entertainment by the Larry Hernandez Band. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us in listening, or dancing, to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” states Commander Sam Phillips. Point Pleasant Trail Riders Sponsor St. Jude Fundraiser
The St. Jude Charity Trail Ride, sponsored by the Point Pleasant Trail Riders, will be held October 9, at the Ford’s Well Wrangler Camp, located on Highway 32, between Water Valley and Oakland.
Those participating are asked to bring a sack lunch and drinks (no alcohol). Riders will gather at 9 a.m. and the ride will begin at 10 a.m. All horses must have negative Coggins papers.
