The Surprise Sisters and Buttercup will perform in the Oakland United Methodist Church Saturday, October 16, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Surprise Sisters and Buttercup are a group of mature ladies from DeSoto County who enjoy performing songs from the 50s and 60s. They have their own style of performing, along with their own creation of costumes.

Mt. Liberty Church, located at 603 CR 284 invites the public to the annual fish fry. This anticipated event is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, in the fellowship hall. There is no charge for the fish fry.

Sunday, Oct. 17
The Men and Women Program will be held at Chapel Hill M.B. Church Sunday, October 17. The guest speaker for the morning service will be Rev. Henry Bell, Jr., Associate Minister at Greater New Hope Church in Myrtle. This service will begin at 11:15 a.m.
The message for the evening service, which will begin at 3 p.m., will be delivered by Pastor C. Jerome Battle.
Everyone is invited to attend these services,” stated Pastor Battle.

First Presbyterian Church will celebrate its annual homecoming and the church’s 167th anniversary on October 17. Rev. Don Harding, former member of First Presbyterian and long time pastor of Kolola Springs Baptist Church in Caledonia will preach at the 10:55 a.m. service. Harris Chapel will have their Pastor’s 6th Year Love Day Celebration Sunday, October 17, beginning at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Elder Kevin Coakley, pastor of Moorse Chapel A.M.E. Everdale M.B. Church will have Fall Revival services beginning Sunday, October 17, at 7 p.m., and continuing through Tuesday, October 19. The evangelist will be Rev. Clarence Buchanan, pastor of New Birth Baptist Church in Grenada. Everdale is located in Water Valley at 410 Calhoun Street. Rev. Phillip Brackett is pastor of the church.

Sunday, October 17, will be the Palestine Homecoming. Preaching will begin at 11 a.m. and this will be followed by dinner at 12 Noon. Everyone is invited to join the members there. The church is located three miles northeast of Water Valley on the Old Oxford Road (County Road 115).

The Yalobusha Baptist Association’s Discipleship Rally will be held at Bethel Baptist Church October 18, beginning at 7 p.m. Dr. Rex Yancy, pastor of First Baptist Church, Ripley, and past president of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board, will be the guest speaker. Praise and worship will be led by Claude Allen Hughes, YBA Music Director. Featured will be Bro. Eric Fearing, Minister of Music at FBC Water Valley. “You are invited to join us for a great rally and fellowhsip following the event,” stated Bro. Truman Scarbrough, AMD.
Oct. 18 – 21
Chapel Hill M.B. Church will have their Fall Revival services October 18, 19, 20, and 21. The speaker each night will be the pastor of the church, Rev. Jerome Battle of Batesville. The services will begin each night at 7 p.m. “Everyone is invited to come and help us lift up and praise the mighty name of Jesus, and we solicit your prayers,” stated Rev. Battle and the Chaple Hill Church family.
Saturday, Oct. 23
Harris Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Water Valley will have a Give-A-Way Day in Water Valley Saturday, October 23. They will be giving away clothes, tablets and paper for kids, and selling hot dogs, etc. “It will be a fun day. If you have anything you would like to donate to help with this project, contact Rev. Judy Horton at (662) 809-1545, or Rev. Bobbie Willis at (662) 417-4979. We want to make this a great success, so please come out and support us on this day,” invites Rev. Horton and Rev. Willis. Rev. Horton is District Director of Evangelism and Rev. Willis is Conference Director of Evangelism.

New Providence M.B. Church will have its annual Men’s and Women’s Day Program October 24, beginning at 3 p.m. Rev. Jerome Battle, pastor of Chapel Hill M.B. Church and the Chapel Hill M.B. Church Family will be guests for the program. A fellowship reception will be held immediately after the 11 a.m. service. “Everyone is invited to attend this joyous occasion,” stated Rev. Sidney Townes, pastor, and the New Providence Church Family.
Sunday, Oct. 1
Rodeo Round-Up/High Sunday School Attendance Day will be held at Woodland Hills Baptist Church Sunday, October 31. Activities of the day will begin with Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. Worship service starts at 10:30 and this will be followed by a western hot-dog lunch.
Afternoon activities include games for both adults and children, a cake walk, horseback rides, and lots more. Door prizes will be given throughout the afternoon.
“All members of the church are urged to join us for SS and everyone is invited to attend SS and Worship, or to join us for lunch and the afternoon activities,” stated Becky York, chairman of the event.
