Circuit Clerk’s Office Open Jan. 8 For Voting
The Yalobusha County Circuit Clerk’s offices will be open on Saturday, Jan. 8m until noon to allow absentee voting for the Jan. 11 special election for the Northern District Transportation Commissioner. The special election follows the Nov. 1 death of Bill Minor, who was serving his second term as transportation commissioner. Absentee ballots for the election are available now at both courthouses.
Meeting Set For Tuesday, Jan. 11 For Corps’ Habitat Day
Enid Lake’s annual Habitat Day is scheduled for Saturday, February 5, with activities beginning at 7 a.m. at the Enid Lake Field Office.
The Habitat Day organizational meeting for all persons interested in participating will be held at the Enid Lake Field Office Tuesday night, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. The public is invited.
Water Valley Athletic Department Offers Chances To Win A Steer
Hurry, buy your tickets today! Athletes at Water Valley High School are selling chances to win one of three Black Angus steers donated to the Water Valley Athletic Department by Ingram Cattle Company and John Ingram.
“This is a wonderful gift for the school athletics. There is no better quality beef than Angus from Ingram Farms,” Athletic Director Trey Allman reported.
The last day to purchase a ticket will be January 13. There will be three individual drawings. Ingram Farms will deliver the steer to the meat processor for each of the three winners. Each steer’s dressed weight will be around 500 pounds.
Tickets cost $10 each or 12 for $100. Proceeds will benefit all Water Valley High School athletes.
The money from ticket sales will be appropriated to each sport, based on what the athlete who sells the ticket plays, according to Allman.
Eastern Star Schedules Monthly Meeting
Water Valley Chapter No. 5 Order of the Eastern Star will have its next regular meeting on Tuesday, January 11, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle, beginning at 7:30 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend.
Valley City Lodge Holds Communication
Valley City Lodge No. 402 F&AM will hold its next stated Communication on Thursday, January 6, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. New officers will be installed at this meeting. This will be an open meeting, beginning with a pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m. Friends and family are invited to attend. All members are urged to be present and to support your lodge.
Lions Club Schedules Pancake Breakfast
The Water Valley Lions Club will have its first-of-the-month pancake breakfast Saturday, January 8, from 6:30-9 a.m. in the Depot Building on Main Street. The menu is all you-care-to-eat of pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice for $5. “Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy a delicious breakfast, while helping fund the many charitable activities of the Lions club,” says Lion Ernie Aune.
Sexton Band Performs At Saturday Night Dance
The regular VFW Post 4100 Saturday night dance will be held this week on January 8 in the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Entertainment will be provided by the Sexton Band from 8 p.m. until midnight.
VFW Schedules Friday Bingo Action
VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, January 7. Everyone, 18 years and older, is invited to come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled evening of bingo at their Post Home, located on Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6, and the first of 24 games begins at 7. You must be at least 18 to play.
Y-Fest Set For March 4 And 5 At Multi-purpose Building
Y-Fest 2011 will be held Friday and Saturday, March 4 and 5, in the Yalobusha County Multi-Purpose Building at Coffeeville. Guest speaker for Y-Fest 2011 will be Bro. Terry Coffey, author of Terror by Night. The Tom Edwards Band will be back, leading the praise and worship.
