Y-Fest Set For March 4 And 5 At Multi-purpose Building

    Y-Fest 2011 will be held Friday and Saturday, March 4 and 5, in the Yalobusha County Multi-Purpose Building at Coffeeville. Guest speaker for Y-Fest 2011 will be Bro. Terry Coffey, author of “Terror by Night.” The Tom Edwards Band will be back, leading the praise and worship.

    The schedule for Y-Fest prayer meetings will be posted each week in advance. The schedule is: January 11, 7 p.m., Hopewell Baptist Church; January 12, Bethel Baptist Church; January 25, Coffeeville FBC; February 1, Sylva Rena Baptist Church; February 8, Open; February 15, Camp Ground Baptist Church; February 22, Tillatoba Baptist Church; March 1, Multi-Purpose Building, Coffeeville.

City Offices Are Closed On January 17

    All offices and departments at the City of Water Valley will be closed Monday, Jan. 17, for Martin Luther King holiday. Monday’s garbage route will be run as usual.

Jason Adams Band Performs At Saturday Night Dance

    The regular VFW Post 4100 Saturday night dance will be held this week on January 15 in the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Entertainment will be provided by the Jason Adams Band from 8 p.m. until midnight.

Water Valley Athletic Department Offers Chances To Win A Steer

    Hurry, buy your tickets today!  Athletes at Water Valley High School are selling chances to win one of three Black Angus steers donated to the Water Valley Athletic Department by Ingram Cattle Company and John Ingram.

    “This is a wonderful gift for the school athletics. There is no better quality beef than Angus from Ingram Farms,” Athletic Director Trey Allman reported.

    The last day to purchase a ticket will be January 13. There will be three individual drawings. Ingram Farms will deliver the steer to the meat processor for each of the three winners. Each steer’s dressed weight will be around 500 pounds.

    Tickets cost $10 each or 12 for $100. Proceeds will benefit all Water Valley High School athletes.

 The money from ticket sales will be appropriated to each sport, based on what the athlete who sells the ticket plays, according to Allman.

VFW Schedules Friday Bingo Action

    VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, January 14. Everyone, 18 years and older, is invited to come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled evening of bingo at their Post Home, located on Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6, and the first of 24 games begins at 7. You must be at least 18 to play.

Extension Service Hosts Equine Meeting Via Interactive Video

Thursday, January 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension office we will have an Equine Interest Meeting.  This meeting will be held via interactive video. Dr. David Christiansen will be the speaker.

Homemakers Schedule Business Meeting, Program On Jan. 18

On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers will meet at the Extension office at the Multi-purpose Building.  The business meeting is scheduled at 9 a.m. and the program will follow at 10 a.m.  The program is sponsored by Renasant Bank and will include information on the upcoming bank-sponsored trips in 2011. This meeting is open to the public.

Masonic Chapters Will Install Officers At Thursday Meeting

    McConico Chapter No. 96 R&M and J.J. Melton Council No. 50 will hold the regular scheduled meeting at the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle on Thursday, Jan. 13.

    All companions are notified that the meeting time has been charged to 7 p.m. from now through April.

    New officers will be installed at this meeting. All members of the two organizations are invited to attend.

Minor Emergencies Is Topic At Thursday’s 4-H Club Meeting

The 4-H FCS Club will meet on Thursday, Jan. 13, at 4:30 p.m. at the Multi-purpose Building in Coffeeville.

Julie Ingram, school nurse at the Coffeeville School District will provide information on minor emergencies, including a bee sting, blister, burn, splinters and a nosebleed.

Participants will also have an opportunity to design a poster on First Aid, which will be submitted to State Fair in Jackson in October.

Extension Office Closes For Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

The Extension office will be closed on Monday, January 17 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Identity Theft Is Topic At Historical Society Meeting

    The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 20, in its headquarters in the former Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. The guest speaker will be Rita Green, of Grenada. Rita is the Family Resources Management Extension Agent for Mississippi State University. She will speak on identity theft. The public is invited to all society meetings.
