Registration Starts Feb. 19 For Youth League Baseball, Softball

    Magnolia Youth League will begin registration for baseball and softball on Saturday, February 19, for boys and girls ages 3 through 15. Registration will continue on Saturday, February 26, and Saturday, March 5. Registration will be at the Crawford Sports Complex. For any registration after March 5, there will be a $20 late fee. Church Offers Transportation For Seniors At Rolling Hills, Apartments

    Beginning March 5, the Highways and Hedges Church will use its church bus to carry senior citizens who live in the Water Valley Housing Authority, located in Rolling Hills on Blackmur Drive, and Charlie Harris Apartments to pay bills and pick up groceries. This service is free of charge.

    The bus will travel only within the city limits and will run the first Saturday in each  month from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Masonic Chapters Will Meet Third Thursday In February

    All members are hereby notified that the meeting date for McConico Chapter No. 6 and J.J. Melton Council No. 50 has been changed to the third Thursday in February only. This is being done due to a conflict with Grand Lodge meeting dates.

Compassion Ministry Reschedules Food Distribution Day

    Compassion Food Ministry postponed their distribution day, scheduled for February 10, and it will be held this Thursday, February 17. They will have a second distribution this month on February 27.

Pesticide Certification Training Offered On Feb. 28

Private Applicator pesticide certification training will be held at the Multi-Purpose Building, in Coffeeville. There will be a $10 charge for the training.  You must be certified in order to buy restricted use pesticides.

This training is to certify private applicators who are 18 years of age or older and produce an agricultural commodity on his/her farm. The date for the training is February 28, 2011 beginning at 10 a.m. thru 12 p.m.

High School Drama Club Presents Romantic Comedy

    The Water Valley High School Drama Club will present ‘Almost, Maine’ a romantic comedy by John Cariani Thursday, March 3, beginning at 7 p.m. The presentation will be in the Water Valley Civic Auditorium. Admission will be $5 at the door.

    “Come and see what happens to people who are normally very grounded, but who have become very excited by love….and other extraordinary occurrences!” invites Drama Club sponsor Debra Anderson.

City Announces Holiday Closing

    All City of Water Valley offices and departments will be closed Monday, Feb. 21, for President’s Day.

    Monday’s garbage route will run as usual.

Calhoun Quilt Show Is March 4

    The Calhoun County MHV Council members are sponsoring their 7th annual Quilt And Apron Show on March 4 and 5.  Anyone interested in exhibiting their quilts to bring them to the Multi Purpose Building between Feb.  21 and March 2. The exhibitor does not have to be a MHV member.

    Quilts can be pieced, appliquéd, embroidered or any other medium.  They can be hand or machine quilted and may be any size. There will also be categories for quilted pillows, aprons, wall hangings, table runners, bonnets, clothing and accessories.

    Everyone is encouraged to come view the exhibit on Friday, March 4  from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $2.00 which will also entitle you to a ticket on two quilts that will be given away on Saturday. Sardis Theater Schedules First Show Of The Year

    Panola Playhouse in Sardis opens this weekend with the first show of the year, “Hairspray.” The production is  directed by Vic Henson of Sardis and will run February 18-27. YBA Director Thanks Public For Attendance At Prayer Rallies

    “A special thank you is extended to everyone who was able to attend the prayer rallies held at the Water Valley and Coffeeville courthouses on Tuesday, February 8th,” stated Rev. Truman Scarbrough, Yalobusha Baptist Associational Director. These were held in conjunction with the Cover Mississippi with Prayer Program.

Horse Riding Practice For 4-H Set For February 22

    On Tuesday, February 22, a 4-H horse riding practice will be also held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Building. Don’t forget to look Yalobusha County Extension Service up on Facebook at MSU-Yalobusha County Extension Service to see all of the upcoming programs for February.

Mayor Larry Hart Is Speaker At Thursday’s Historical Meeting

Water Valley Mayor Larry Hart will be the guest speaker at Yalobusha Historical Society meeting scheduled Thursday, February 17 at 2 p.m. The society meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month in its headquarters, the former Presbyterian Church and  the Masonic Hall  (now our Research Library) on the corner of Depot and Center Streets in Coffeeville.

The public is welcomed to come and enjoy the programs and visit the new research library.  Part of your own family’s history may well be cataloged there.

Jason Adams Band Performs At Saturday Night Dance

    The regular VFW Post 4100 Saturday Nigh Dance will be held this week on February 19 in the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Entertainment will be provided by the Jason Adams Band from 8 p.m. until 12 midnight. “Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy listening, or dancing, to the music,” says Commander Sam Phillips.

VFW Hosts Friday Bingo Action

    VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, February 18. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled evening of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6, and the first of 24 games begins at 7. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

Poetry Readings Resume

Spring into Poetry!, an open mic event with live music and a featured reader, meets the fourth Friday of every month (2/25, 3/25, 4/22) through April from 6 to 8 pm within the welcoming walls of Bozarts Gallery, 403 N. Main Street, in Water Valley.  All are invited to come read or just listen.  See you there.

Meeting Set To See If There Is Interest In Shooting Sports

There will be a shooting sports interest meeting held on Thursday, February 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Multi-purpose Building in Coffeeville. This meeting is open to the community youth from ages 8-18 and is sponsored by the Yalobusha Extension Service.

Come Learn About Tomatoes During Thursday Lunch Meeting

A Lunch and Learn program is scheduled at the Multi-Purpose Building on Thursday, February 17, from noon to 1p.m. The topic of this week’s presentation is “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Tomatoes.” Information on growing tomatoes and lots of trivia about them will be shared.
