Egg Hunt, Bunny Photos Sponsored By VFW

    A community Easter egg hunt will be held at VFW Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley, Sunday, April 17, from 2 p.m.-until.

    Age groups will be: 0-2; 3-5; 6-8; and 9-12.

    The Easter bunny will join the action to take pictures with the kids for $5 per picture. Parents/guardians are asked to be with their children throughout the event. For more information call (662) 473-4456.

Benefit Set For Transplant Patient

    A benefit for Bro. John Tolbert, pastor of Pine Grove Baptist Church, will be held April 16, beginning at 5 p.m. in the American Legion Building at Coffeeville. Plates consisting of hamburgers or hot dogs, chips, baked beans, and drinks will be sold for $5. Bro. Tolbert is recovering from a heart transplant.

    The Coleman Family and Homeward Bound will sing. Cakes will also be auctioned and any cake donations for the auction will be appreciated. Monetary donations can be made at any Renasant Bank to the Pine Grove Baptist Church Special Account.

Yalobusha Retired Employees  Work To Reactivate Association

    The Yalobusha Retired Employees Association will meet on April 28, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Edgar Community Center at 100 Hunt Lane, RH-17 in the Rolling Hills Community in Water Valley.

    The purpose of this meeting is to reactivate the Yalobusha County Retired Employees Association. All members, and former members, are asked to be present and are also encouraged to invite other retirees  in Yalobusha County to attend.

Chamber Invites Students To Apply For Annual Scholarship

    The Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce awards an annual $1,000 scholarship to a Water Valley High School graduating senior who demonstrates exceptional leadership capabilities and outstanding community involvement. Students interested in applying for this scholarship may pick up an application form in the Guidance Office at Water Valley High School or at the Chamber of Commerce Office on  Main Street. The deadline for applying for this scholarship is May 1, 2011. Please return your application to the Chamber of Commerce Office by this date.

Learn Tips For Historic Preservation At Historical Society Meeting

The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 in the former Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. The guest speaker will be Coffeeville’s own, Donna Bailey Dye, of Madison, wife of former Lt. Gov. Brad Dye. Her topic will be “Practical Tips for Preserving Your Family History.”

Junior Auxiliary Sponsors Egg Hunt

    An Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by Junior Auxiliary of Water Valley, will be held Saturday, April 16, in Water Valley City Park. This event is for Pre-K, and grades K-4th grade. Those participating are asked to bring their own baskets. A snack will be given.

Cossar Park Holds Annual Easter Activities

    Cossar State Park will hold its annual Easter activities Saturday,  April 23. The egg hunt will begin at 10 a.m. There will be games and activities after the egg hunt behind the visitors center. The Easter Bunny will be present, along with Smokey the Bear and Woodsy the Owl. Friends of Cossar will have a concession stand open.

Young People Invited To Learn About Flowers

    Young people, ages 5 to 18, are invited to come and learn about how to grow their own flowers at the Mississippi State University Extension Service.

    The program will include learning how to plant flowers and decorate flower pots. The session will be held in the Multi-Purpose Building at Coffeeville Thursday, April 14, from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Bourgeois Is Featured Reader At Final Poetry Event

Spring into Poetry! is proud to announce poet Louis Bourgeois as the featured reader on Friday, April 22, and Adam Gussow as the musical guest.

Bourgeois is cofounder and editor of Oxford’s Vox Press and author of the memoir, The Gar Diaries. His essays have been published in The Sun magazine, and his work selected for the Best American Poetry series.

Gussow is best known for his partnership with Mississippi guitarist and one-man-band Sterling “Mr. Satan” Magee. They toured with Bo Didley and internationally. Tour credits include the Chicago Blues Festival, the Newport Jazz Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Kick and Stomp is Gussow’s latest release.

This is a free, open to the public event you will not want to miss!! (and last reading of the season) at Bozarts Gallery, 413 Main Street, in Water Valley from 6 to 8 pm.

Yalobusha Baptist Association Executive Board Meets April 15

    The Yalobusha Baptist Associational Executive Board will meet on Thursday, April 14, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Associational Building in Coffeeville.
