Northwest To Open MACJC Tournament With East Central

SENATOBIA – The Northwest Ranger softball team will open the eight-team, single-elimination MACJC State Tournament on Thursday, April 28 on the campus of Gulf Coast, taking on East Central at noon.

The north’s No. 3 seed, Northwest (23-16) will meet the south’s No. 2 seed East Central (29-11) for the first time this season. The two teams were scheduled to play on April 11 in Senatobia, but the games were postponed due to several rainouts and not made up.

Northwest enters the state tournament winners in 13 of its last 18 games and are looking for their first victory in the postseason tournament since a 7-4 win over East Central in 2009.

The Rangers are hitting .327 as a team, paced by sophomore INF/P Candice Brasher (.442 avg., 17 doubles, home run, 37 RBIs) and freshman SS Hillari Plummer (.441 avg., four doubles, two triples, 13 RBIs, 10-11 SBs). In the circle, sophomore Magen Fullwood is 10-7 with a team-best 1.82 ERA along with 14 complete games and three shutouts in 111.2 innings of work.

East Central comes in as winners in 20 of its last 24 and are hitting .319 as a team, paced by OF Summer Alexander (.420 avg., 14 doubles, two home runs, 26 RBIs) and C/INF Abbie Joiner (.414 avg., seven doubles, four triples, 20 RBIs). In the circle, Taylor Bailey boasts a 22-6 record with a dismal 1.17 ERA in 190.2 innings of work.
