WATER VALLEY – The Lady Blue Devils finished up the season last week with a pair of losses to defending state champions, the Nettleton Lady Tigers.

The girls finished overall 14 – 12 and were 5 – 1 in division play. A few key injuries late in the season stalled  the championship run after just two rounds.

An injury to key defensive player, shortstop Briana Thompson, had Coach Kendra Bensch struggling to fill the void in the field late in the season.

The Lady Devils also struggled to fill the pitching slots on the mound, fielding two or three starting pitchers.

The Lady Devils will now focus on next year as a new head coach will take the reins. Casey Clouse has served as the head coach of Simmons High School for the last year and comes to Water Valley with an impressive athletic background.

Clouse played high school ball at Mooreville and Clinton, and also played at Hinds Community College.

She will also serve as volleyball coach in her new dual role.
