Bell Family Schedules Family Reunion

    The family of Lucius and Mollie Perkins Bell, along with related families of Pritchard, Fly, Porter, Perkins, and Hughes, will have a reunion on Saturday, June 18, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Yalobusha Country Club at Water Valley. There will be a presentation on the Perkins, Walker, and Bobbitt families following the noon meal. Information will also be available on the Bell, Raules, Carr, and Turner families. These families lived around the Hatton, Long Branch, Ford’s Well community and surrounding area.

Blackmur Library Sponsors Summer Library Program

Blackmur Memorial Library will have its Summer Library Program Monday, June 20 – Friday, June 24.

The program is open to children in kindergarten through sixth grade and will feature reading, arts and crafts and special presentations by different organizations and individuals. The program will begin at 10 a.m. and end at approximately 11:15 each day.

Parents can register their children by coming by the library and filling out a registration form. The deadline for registration is Saturday, June 18.

In addition, the library is also sponsoring a bookmark design contest and a summer read-a-thon for the same ages. Forms for the bookmark design contest and a reading journal can also be picked up at the library. The deadline for the bookmark contest is Friday, June 17 and the winner will be announced at the end of the Summer Library Program. The deadline to turn in read-a-thon journals will be Friday, July 29. The top reader will be announced after the program ends.

Masons Meet June 9

McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM and J.J. Melton Council No. 50 will have their regular scheduled meetings on Thursday, June 9, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. All members are reminded that the meeting time has been changed back to 7:30 p.m. from now until October. All members of these two Masonic Bodies are encouraged to attend.

Eastern Star Meets June 14

    Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of the Eastern Star, will have its next regular meeting on Tuesday, June 14, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle beginning at 7:30 p.m. All members in good standing are reminded to attend.

Melton Family Announces Reunion

    The Melton reunion will be held Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Haven Hill Baptist Church in Yalobusha County, near Coffeeville. Lunch will be served inside or out at noon. For more information call (662) 983-7246 or (662) 983-9042.

Rounsaville Family Group Announces Final Reunion

The North Miss. Rounsaville Family Group will hold its final reunion beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Western Sizzlin’ Steakhouse in Grenada. All Rounsaville relatives and friends are invited to attend.  Lunch will be Dutch treat, and no reservations are required. Yalo Studio Opening This Friday

An opening reception will be held this Friday, June 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Yalo Studio and Gallery for “Drawing Expressive,” a display of the artwork of Alabama native John Henry Toney. About 40 pieces will be shown at the gallery, located at 303 N. Main Street in downtown Water Valley. Drinks and hors d’ouvres served. As always, everyone is welcome!

Quick Bites Program Is Thursday

The Yalobusha County Extension Services invites the public to join Lynette McDougald, Instructor and University Florist Manager as she shares summer designs and secrets during a Quick Bites program on Thursday, June 9 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose building in Coffeeville. Please call the Extension office to reserve your seat at 675-2730.  This program is free  to the public.

Find Out What’s Eating Your Garden During Noon Program

A Lunch and Learn Program is scheduled at the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville Thursday, June 16, from 12 to 1 p.m. Learn “What’s Eating My garden?” with basic identification and control of common insect pests in the vegetable garden. Call the Extension Office at 675-2730 to reserve your seat. This event is free and open to the public. Don’t forget to bring your lunch.

VFW Announces Friday Bingo

    VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, June 10. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled evening of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6, and the first of 24 games will begin at 7. You must at least 18 years of age to play.

VFW, Ladies Auxiliary Send ‘Thanks’ To Community

    All Veterans of Foreign Wars, V.F.W. Post 4100, and the Ladies Auxiliary would like to thank members of the community who came out to their Memorial Day Ceremony to honor our fallen comrades who died defending our freedom.

    “A special thanks to Betty Hart for a wonderful job, to Bro. David Ross for leading us in our opening and closing prayers, to all our speakers, and to our special guest speaker Major Vinzant for a great speech,” says Commander Sam Phillips.

Danny Sexton Band Performs At Saturday Night Dance

    The regular VFW Post 4100 Saturday night dance will be held June 11 in the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Entertainment will be provided by the Danny Sexton Band from 8 p.m. until midnight. “Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy listening, or dancing, to the music,” says Commander Sam Phillips.

Pleasant Agers Meet June 15

    Pleasant Agers will meet Wednesday, June 15, in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, located four miles west of Bruce on CR 231, across the railroad on the left. A pot luck lunch will be served at 12 noon. Rev. Derick Finley, and daughters, will minister in song after lunch. Pastor Ron Jenkins invites everyone to attend.

Mark Your Calendar For Tillatoba Political Rally

    Tillatoba Volunteer Fire Department is having a political rally on June 25, starting at 1 p.m. Candidates will be speaking, there will be a cake auction, and hamburger plates with chips and drink, for $6, hot dog and chips with drink for $4, or sausage and chips with drink for $6 will be available.

    All politicians are asked to make a donation to speak. A PA system and audience will be provided.

    A raffle of $250 will be given away for a $2 donation per chance. You can get tickets from any Tillatoba firefighter and at the rally. Drawing will be after the candidates speak. You do not have to be present to win.

Summer Fest Set For June 18 At Coffeeville Baseball Park

    Summer Fest will be held Saturday, June 18, in the Coffeeville Baseball Park. There will be gospel singing, a BBQ Contest, and a fish fry. This event is sponsored by New Life Ministry C.O.G.I.C. “Everyone is invited to attend,” said Elder Leroy Harris.

Gibson, Godwin, Prescott, Van Winkle Family Reunion Is June 26

The Gibson – Godwin – Prescott – Van Winkle family reunion will be held Sunday, June 26, at the Wrangler Camp Ground in the Fords Well Community located off Hwy. 32 on CR 557 about six miles east of the I-55 Water Valley/Oakland exit. Lunch will be held at 1 p.m. at pavilion site #665. Bring your favorite dish or dishes to share, said Vida Gibson Corley, who asked that you RSVP (662) 226-2600.

Davidson Elementary Offers Free Summer Meals June 6 – July 1

    Free summertime meals will be available to all kids 18 years and younger. The meals will be served at Davidson Elementary School, 207 Goode Street, Water Valley from June 6 through July 1. Serving times will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.
