Davidson Elementary Offers Free Summer Meals June 6 – July 1

    Free summertime meals will be available to all kids 18 years and younger. The meals will be served at Davidson Elementary School, 207 Goode Street, Water Valley from June 6 through July 1. Serving times will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.

Bell Family Schedules Family Reunion

    The family of Lucius and Mollie Perkins Bell, along with related families of Pritchard, Fly, Porter, Perkins, and Hughes, will have a reunion on Saturday, June 18, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Yalobusha Country Club at Water Valley. There will be a presentation on the Perkins, Walker, and Bobbitt families following the noon meal. Information will also be available on the Bell, Raules, Carr, and Turner families. These families lived around the Hatton, Long Branch, Ford’s Well community and surrounding area.

Lunch And Learn Program Provides Garden Insight

    There will be a lunch and learn program held at the Multi-Purpose Building on Thursday, June 16, from noon to 1 p.m.  The topic of this week’s presentation is “What’s Eating My Garden?”  basic ID and control of common insect pests in the vegetable garden.  Please join us for the learning experience.

Jason Adams Band Performs At VFW Dance

    The regular VFW Post 4100 Saturday Night Dance will be held this week on June 18, in the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Entertainment will be provided by the Jason Adams Band from 8 p.m. until midnight. “Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy listening, or dancing, to the music,” says Commander Sam Phillips.

VFW Schedules Bingo Friday Night

    VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, June 17. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6, and the first of 24 games begins at 7. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

House Warming Party Set For Fire Victim

    A house warming will be held for Barbara Raley, who lost her home to fire, on June 18, beginning at 10 a.m. This will be held at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley, and is hosted by members of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Calhoun County Extension Service Announces County Fair

The Calhoun County Fair will be held July 18-23 at the county fair grounds in Pittsboro. Among the events will be a “Fairest of the Fair” pageant, big watermelon contest, round robin roping, pea shelling competition, pet show, youth cook-off, and baking contest. Mark Your Calendar For Tillatoba Political Rally

    Tillatoba Volunteer Fire Department is having a political rally on June 25, starting at 1 p.m. Candidates will be speaking, there will be a cake auction, and hamburger plates with chips and drink, for $6, hot dog and chips with drink for $4, or sausage and chips with drink for $6 will be available.

    All politicians are asked to make a donation to speak. A PA system and audience will be provided.

    A raffle of $250 will be given away for a $2 donation per chance. You can get tickets from any Tillatoba firefighter and at the rally. Drawing will be after the candidates speak. You do not have to be present to win.

Summer Fest Set For June 18 At Coffeeville Baseball Park

    Summer Fest will be held Saturday, June 18, in the Coffeeville Baseball Park. There will be gospel singing, a barbecue contest, and a fish fry. This event is sponsored by New Life Ministry C.O.G.I.C. “Everyone is invited to attend,” said Elder Leroy Harris.

Gibson, Godwin, Prescott, Van Winkle Family Reunion Is June 26

The Gibson – Godwin – Prescott – Van Winkle family reunion will be held Sunday, June 26, at the Wrangler Camp Ground in the Fords Well Community located off Hwy. 32 on CR 557 about six miles east of the I-55 Water Valley/Oakland exit. Chapel Hill Hosts Gospel Tones At Civic Auditorium

    Josie Drane and The Gospel Tones will be featured in a 25th Anniversary concert Sunday, June 19, beginning at 4 p.m., in the Water Valley Civic Auditorium. This is being sponsored by Chapel Hill Baptist Church and a free will offering will be received.

    There will be a $100 raffle. For tickets and more information contact any member of the Gospel Tones.

Join Charity Riders ‘Rally In The Valley’

    The Lake Charity Riders will present Rally in the Valley June 17-19. This event will be held on Highway 32, west of Water Valley (turn south on CR 225, then right on CR 103, then approximately 2 miles on left).

    There will be bike games with CMA, live music, featuring All Night Long Blues Band Saturday night. Entertainment is sponsored by Delta Distributors. No one under 18 will be allowed. Gates open at noon Friday, and admission is $10 per day. All proceeds go to New Hope Christian Academy for Girls in Duck Hill. There is free tent camping or self contained campers, and also free vendor space.

Eastern Star Offers Delicious Treats For Father’s Day

    Members of St. Joseph Chapter No. 8, Order of Eastern Star, will hold a bake sale Saturday, June 18, beginning at 8 a.m. This event will be held in front of Piggly Wiggly at Water Valley.

    “Come out and purchase a delicious pie or cake for Father’s Day,” invites Mary A. Person, Worth Matron, Gertie B. Buford, Associate Matron, and Rose M. Lee, Secretary.

Benefit Program Set For Five Time Cancer Survivor

    A benefit program will be held Saturday, July 2, for Teresa (Tee Tee) Kincaide Moore, who is a five time cancer survivor that is currently in the hospital getting treatments for leukemia. She is a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, where Rev. James Wright is her pastor.
