Annual Stewart Reunion Is Scheduled July 9

    The 32nd annual Stewart Reunion will be held Saturday, July 9, in the Masonic Temple, 122 Champion Circle, just off Highway 7 South in Water Valley. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. Those attending are ask to bring a pot luck dish to share at noon. If you have any questions contact Patricia at 473-4788.

Benefit Program Set For Five Time Cancer Survivor

    A benefit program will be held Saturday, July 2, for Teresa (Tee Tee) Kincaide Moore, who is a five time cancer survivor that is currently in the hospital getting treatments for leukemia. She is a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, where Rev. James Wright is her pastor.

    The benefit will be held in the Mt. Moriah Building in Coffeeville, starting at 6 p.m. Please contact Rev. Bobbie Willis, sister of Tee Tee, at (662) 417-4979 if you have any questions.

Arts Council Schedules Camp For Children

    The Water Valley Arts Council will hold an art camp for children ages  5 – 12 on July 11-15. A $50 tuition fee will include materials and snacks. A limited number of full scholarships are available. Registration will end as soon as classes have filled, so don’t delay! Pick up registration forms at Turnage Drug Store, the B.T.C., White Star, or the Main Street Office. For additional information call  473-9851 and ask for Ramona.

City Schedules Holiday Closing

    All City of Water Valley offices and departments will be closed Monday, July 4, for the Fourth of July holiday.

    Monday’s garbage route will run as usual. Tuesday, July 5, will be a day of grace for paying utility bills.

Larry Hernandez Band Performs At VFW Dance

    The Larry Hernandez Band will play for the regular VFW Saturday Night Dance on July 2. You may dance, or listen, to the music from 8 p.m. until midnight in the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. “Everyone is invited to attend,” says Commander Sam Phillips.

Chamber Hosts Southaven Musician At Music In The Park

    Country and gospel singer Wade Cottonfield of Southaven will perform for Music in the Park this Friday evening. The music begins at 7 p.m. at the Railroad Park pavilion, according to Chamber of Commerce officials.

Cottonfield, who is described as sounding like Charlie Pride, will be singing selections from his album, “Angel On My Shoulder.”

Among Cottonfield’s songs are “It’s Your Mississippi,” “Truckers Love Song,” and “That Credit Card (tore us apart).” He also wrote “The Colonel Reb Tribute Song.”

Color Guard Schedules Bake Sale

    The Water Valley Band Color Guard will have a Bake Sale Saturday, July 2, beginning at 7:30 a.m. in front of Piggly Wiggly. The proceeds from this sale will be used to purchase new uniforms for the Color Guard.

Senate Candidate Will Speak At County’s Republican Meeting

    Yalobusha County Republicans will meet Thursday night, June 30, beginning at 6 p.m., in the Mechanics Bank Community Room. Todd Wade, Republican State Senate Candidate, will be the guest. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Springs Hill Announces Bake Sale

    The Springhill North M.B. Church’s Mother Ministry will have a bake sale Saturday, July 2, in front of Piggly Wiggly on South Main Street, Water Valley. The sale will begin at 6 a.m. and will continue until all cakes are gone. “Come out and purchase your cake for the Fourth of July,” invites Earlene Hairston, President of he Mother Ministry.

VFW Bingo Action Set For Friday Night

    VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, July 1, in the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m., sales will begin at 6, and the first of 24 games will start at 7. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

Calhoun County Extension Service Announces County Fair

The Calhoun County Fair will be held July 18-23 at the county fair grounds in Pittsboro. Among the events will be a “Fairest of the Fair” pageant, big watermelon contest, round robin roping, pea shelling competition, pet show, youth cook-off, and baking contest. Information is available from the Calhoun County Extension Service at (662) 412-3177.

Yalobusha 4-H, Saddle Club Set Political Rally July 9

    The Yalobusha County 4-H Horse Club and Coffeeville Saddle Club is having a political rally on July 9, starting at 1 p.m. Candidates will speak, and there will be a cake auction.

    A Tri-Lakes Speed Show will follow at 5 p.m. The concession stand will be open for lunch and throughout the speaking and horse show.  The public is encouraged to come out and listen to the candidates and stay for the horse show.

Arts Council Seeks Local Artists To Display Work At Renasant Bank

The Water Valley Arts Council is looking for artists to display their work at the Renasant Bank in Water Valley.
