Tri-Lakes Hosts Political Rally
The Tri-Lakes Fair-grounds Association will host the anticipated political rally on Saturday, July 16.
Local and state candidates have been invited to the event, which will be held at the gazebo in City Park on North Main Street in Water Valley. Be sure and bring your lawn chair as the action starts at 6 p.m.
Election night coverage will also be held at City Park on Tuesday, August 2, starting at 7 p.m. Up-to-the-minute results will be posted.

Calhoun County Extension Service Announces County Fair
The Calhoun County Fair will be held July 18-23 at the county fair grounds in Pittsboro. Among the events will be a “Fairest of the Fair” pageant, big watermelon contest, round robin roping, pea shelling competition, pet show, youth cook-off, and baking contest. Arts Council Seeks Local Artists To Display Work At Renasant Bank
The Water Valley Arts Council is looking for artists to display their work at the Renasant Bank in Water Valley.

Water Valley Schools Schedule Summer Band Camp
Water Valley Schools Band Camp begins next week with Guard/Percussion Camp Monday through Thursday, July 18-21, from 9 until 12 in the morning. The full band will report Friday, July 22, at 8 a.m. and will practice until 4 p.m.
The camp will continue the next week, Monday through Thursday, July 25-28, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., according to Keith Morgan, Band Director.
Candidates Invited To Paris Fire Department’s Political Rally
A political rally will be held at the Paris Volunteer Fire Department July 23, beginning at 5 p.m. The building is air-conditioned. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be available. All candidates are invited to speak and everyone is invited to attend.
Pleasant Agers Set Monthly Meeting Date For July 20
Pleasant Agers will have their monthly meeting July 20 in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, located on CR 231, four miles west of Bruce, across the railroad on the left. A potluck lunch will be served at noon.
The guest speaker will be Miss Barbara Raley from Drivers Flat Baptist Church. Pastor Ron Jenkins invites everyone to attend.

Yalobusha Historical Society Schedules July Meeting
The Yalobusha County Historical Society will meet Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. The guest speaker will be Sherry Worsham. Her topic will be Oakland and Tallahatchie County.
Canning Course Offered For Beginners And Experts
On Tuesday, July 19 at 1 p.m. the Yalobusha Extension Service will offer a canning program. If you are just starting to can or you have been canning for a while and just want a refresher course, this is the class for you.
Attendees will discuss basic equipment, places to get reliable recipes and we will discuss the different types of pressure canners as well as see how they work. If you are interested in attending this class please contact the Extension Office at 675-2730 to register.
Friends Of Oakland Sponsor Political Rally
The Friends of Oakland are sponsoring a political rally in the Oakland Community Center (formerly Oakland Presbyterian Church) July 23, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Food will be sold. Music will begin at 9 a.m. Featured on the musical program will be Daryl Burney and The Sharecroppers and the Parish Grove Male Chorus.

Learn About ‘Treasures From Teasdale’ At Quilt Show And Program
A quilt show and program will be held at the Oakland Public Library July 15, beginning at 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to come out and meet Virginia Murphree of the Teasdale Quilters who will discuss “Treasurers from Teasdale.” Those attending are invited to bring their favorite quilt for displaying.
Bingo Action Set At VFW
VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, July 15, in the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., sales start at 6 and the first of 24 games begins at 7. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
Jason Adams Band Entertains At Saturday Night VFW Dance
The regular Saturday Night VFW Dance will be held at the Post Home July 16. The Post is located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Music will be provided by the Jason Adams Band from 8 p.m. until midnight. “Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy listening or dancing to country music,” says Commander Sam Phillips.
