WV All Class Get Together Set For Carnival Weekend
Water Valley School Alumni are invited to an “all class” get together to be held in conjunction with the Watermelon Carnival. The gathering will take place in the First Christian Church Activities Center on North Main Street Aug. 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Please contact Viola Moore at (662) 473-1337 or (662) 473-8434 to RSVP. “We need to know if you are coming, so we can plan the food and drinks accordingly,” Moore said. Attendees are requested to bring a dish along with photos and memorabilia from the good old days.

Town And County Garden Club Sponsors Annual Music Festival
The 18th Watermelon Music Festival, sponsored by the Town and Garden Club, will be held Thursday, August 4, in the Civic Auditorium. At 7 p.m. music by the Sharecroppers begins, followed by the program at 7:30.
Tickets for $7 may be purchased at Turnage Drug Store, the Chamber of Commerce Office, from garden club members, or call Mary Lou Jones at 473-1482. Proceeds from the event will pay for flowers for the 21 Main Street planters and Railroad Park landscaping.
Jeff Davis School Reunion Set For August
The Jeff Davis School Reunion will be held at Bethel Baptist Church in the fellowship hall on Saturday, August 6, beginning at 6 p.m. All students, families, and friends are invited to attend. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and come join the fun and fellowship.
Children, Ages 8 to 18, Invited To Attend August Sewing Camp
A two-day 4-H sewing camp for children ages 8-18 will be held August 8 and 9 and 10 and 11, from 3:30-5:30. “Come and join us. We will be making pillow cases,” invites Mary Mason Furr. Class of 1982 Seeks Information During Carnival Weekend
The Water Valley High School Class of 1982 will have a tent at the Watermelon Carnival again this year. They will be there Friday, August 5, and Saturday, August 6, located in front of the First Christian Church Activities Center—same location as last year.
The class is still trying to collect information on some classmates that they have not been able to get in touch with or find. If you have contact information for any of the classmates who do not live in the WV area, please come by and let those helping with the upcoming reunion get in touch with them before the 30th class reunion next year.
Football Booster Club Schedules Thursday Meeting
The Water Valley Football Booster Club has scheduled a meeting Thursday night, July 28, at 6 p.m. at the Mechanics Bank Community Room.
Class Of 1961 Celebrates 50 Years During Carnival Weekend
The Water Valley High School Class of 1961 will celebrate 50 years beginning with a delicious brunch to be held in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday, August 6, at 10 a.m. Reply or payment of $13.50 per person should be made to Betty Morris Hart, 509 Panola St., Water Valley, MS 38965. After the brunch, the Fellowship Hall of the Church of Christ (corner of Wise and North Main) will be available until 2 p.m. for classmates to visit, chat, or cool off after taking in the Watermelon Carnival. Family and friends are welcome and refreshments will be served.
The Class of 1958 is also making plans to gather at the Church of Christ Fellowship Hall for an informal reunion.
Pastor Congratulates Sanders Chapel Warriors
The Sanders Chapel Warriors won the Men’s Basketball Team Tournament held July 23 at the Sanders Chapel Life Center.
“Congratulations to the team and also to Joseph Turner for winning the ‘Old Men’s’ three -point shooting contest. Turner is a deacon of the Everdale M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Phillip Brackett,” stated Pastor Mitchell Steen.
VFW Hosts Friday Bingo Games
VFW Bingo will be played Friday, July 29, in VFW Post 4100’s home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Doors open at 5 p.m. and sales start at 6 p.m. The first of 24 games begins at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
Mike Williams And The Outlaws Will Perform At VFW Dance
The regular Saturday Night VFW Dance will be held July 30, beginning at 8 p.m. Entertainment by Mike S. Williams and American Outlaws will continue until Midnight. The dance is held in Post 4100’s Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.
“Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy dancing, or listening, to the music,” stated Commander Sam Phillips.
Ladies Auxiliary Host Yard Sale
V.F.W. Post 4100 Ladies Auxiliary will have a yard sale Saturday, August 13, starting at 7 a.m. at the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.

Masonic Meeting Scheduled Thursday
St. Cyr Commandry No. 6 will hold its next stated Conclave on Thursday, July 28, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. All members are hereby reminded that the meeting time has been changed back to 7:30 from now until October.
