Junior Devils Rack Up Wins In Coffeeville, New Albany

COFFEEVILLE – On Tuesday, September 18 the 7th Grade and Junior Varsity Blue Devils traveled to Coffeeville to take on the rival Pirates. The 7th graders avenged an earlier loss in the season to the Pirates by defeating them 22 to 0.
    Tyrese McGuirt opened up the scoring on a 22-yard outside run for a touchdown. McGuirt also added the two-point conversion. Quarterback Ty Varner hit Receiver Jayvon Morgan right before the half for a 14-yard touchdown pass to put the Blue Devils up by 14 at the intermission.
    Fullback Sam Van Winkle would add the final score on an 18-yard run in the third quarter of play.
    Defensively, linebacker Emman-uel Judson paced the Devils with five total tackles and defensive lineman Hunter Westmoreland added a fumble recovery. This victory moved the 7th Grade’s record to (3-1) on the campaign.
    The 8th Grade Pirates had to forfeit due to numbers and this gave the 8th Grade Devils their fourth victory of the 2012 season and moved them to (4-0).
    The Junior Varsity collected a pair of victories during the past week. First, they also took care of the Pirates 36 to 0. Quarterback Jonathan Kent to tight end Hunter Stanford was the offensive story of the night. The two connected for over 110 yards through the air.
    Running back Elijah Rogers paced the Blue Devils on the ground with two rushing scores. Defensively, outside Linebacker Mark Gooch led the self-proclaimed young “Wrecking Crew” Defense with six total tackles.    
    On Monday, September 24, the Junior Varsity Blue Devils made the trip up to New Albany to take on the homestanding Bulldogs. Regulation would not be enough to decide this very physical battle as the Devils came away with a 12 to six overtime victory. The lone score of regulation from the Blue Devils came from Running back Demar-rius Coleman.
    Coleman led all rushers with 64 yards on the ground. The Blue Devils defense had an excellent night containing the Bulldogs’ attack save one tipped ball that resulted in a touchdown pass.
    Linebacker Dee McNeal and lineman Brandon Smith led all defenders with four stops each. Safety Trey Alexander added an interception and linebacker Marshall Allred added a sack. In overtime, the Devils held strong versus four straight plays from the Bulldogs. Next on fourth and goal, Quarterback Kirkland Horton found Alexander for a slant pattern touchdown to the right that secured the victory and moved the Devils to (3-1) on the season.
