War Of 1812 Is Topic At October 18 Historical Society Meeting
The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet Thursday, October 18, at 2 p.m. at its headquarters, (the former Presbyterian Church) in Coffeeville. The guest speaker, Margaret Hallums, a Calhoun County native, will speak on the War of 1812. Brenda Bowden of Pope won the hoop of cheese at the YHS fundraiser October 6.
VFW Seeks Support To Provide Care Packages For Troops
V.F.W. Post 4100, located at 11535 Highway 315, Water Valley, sponsors a Family Support Group for the families of the 289th Vertical Construction Company. These troops, who are now serving in Afghanistan, are mostly from the Water Valley and Bruce areas.

Former Campers, Workers At Camp Castilian Springs Invited To Reunion
A reunion is in the works for all former campers, counselors and workers at Camp Castilian Springs, a YMCA camp formerly operated in Durant. The reunion is planned October 20-21 at Chickasaw Hills Lodge, 23286 Hwy 315, Sardis, near Sardis Lake. Camp Castilian Springs operated for girls and boys of childhood/teen years during the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
Hundreds, if not thousands of people in and around Mississippi were a part of this summer camp during these decades. The reunion will take place Saturday from 5-10 p.m., dinner served, and will continue on Sunday from 9-noon. Sunday services will be held. Jeans and casual clothing are great–it’s a camp reunion! Fun Walk Raises Money For Multiple Sclerosis Society
Community members from Yalobusha County are sponsoring a Fun Walk to raise money and awareness for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Alabama-Mississippi on Saturday morning, October 20, beginning at 8 a.m. in the Crawford Sports Complex at Water Valley. Anyone interested in supporting this worthy cause is welcome to come and join in the fun. A one-mile (twice around the track) walk is scheduled. There will be prizes and refreshments will be served. The registration fee is $15.
Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic and devastating disease of the central nervous system. More than 6,500 people in Alabama and Mississippi and over 400,000 in the United States have been diagnosed with MS. MS is a very unpredictable disease. sometimes the symptoms are mild; the patient may have numbness in their hands or legs. Sometimes the symptoms can be severe, causing paralysis or loss of vision.
Money raised from this event will help fund much needed research of the disease, as well as help provide programs and services to the people living daily with MS. Please join the many families, friends, caregivers, as well as those who have been affected by this debilitating disease, at the fun walk.
Retired Educators Plan Meeting
There will be a Retired Educators Personnel Meeting at the Mt. Moriah District Association’s building on Thursday, October 25 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Hopewell Schedules Benefit For Fire Victims
A benefit for Jerry and Tammy Perkins will be held Saturday, October 13, at Hopewell Baptist Church. A silent auction begins at 4 p.m. Spaghetti plates will be sold, beginning at 6 p.m. Due to fire, Jerry and Tammy lost everything in their home.
