Art Talk

By Andi Bedsworth

The arts scene in North Mississippi is hopping with gallery openings and new offerings just in time for the coming holiday season. In the Valley, Bozarts has added a Gift Cart in the mirror gallery offering handmade scarves, pottery, note cards and jewelry by local artisans and alliance members.
They will also host special events during the holidays including the Annual Holiday Miniature Show and an open house before the Christmas Parade.
In Oxford there are new shows at Southside and at Frame Up in their basement gallery. The show at Southside features landscapes by Jeffrey Allen and mixed media collage portraits by Blair Hobbs. The work in Frame Up features work by husband and wife, JAG and Melinda Hollings-worth.  She does textural paintings and ink drawings, and he does hand-forged iron work. These shows will be up for the rest of the month, so you still have time to see them.
The Oxford Art Crawl which is held most months on the 4th Tuesday is a great way to experience the vibrant arts scene in town and to view the above exhibits as well as several others.
This month’s crawl falls on Oct.23rd, and the double decker bus will pick up patrons at the Powerhouse, Southside Gallery, the University Museum, and Gallery 130 in Meek Hall on Campus. After this crawl, there will be a short hiatus for the event, and it will pick up again in the coming year.
Have fun viewing great art, and send me your arts related news at arttogollc@gmail.com.
