Deer Season Opens Saturday

JACKSON – Mississippi’s white-tailed deer hunting season with guns opens Nov. 17 and runs through Nov. 30.  Hunting with dogs is allowed during this season.  Legal deer include either-sex on private lands and legal bucks on open public lands.
Hunters are urged to practice good hunter ethics and follow all safety rules to avoid hunting and firearm-related accidents. All persons born on or after January 1, 1972, are required to complete a hunter education course before purchasing a Mississippi hunting license.

Roadblock Benefit  To Help Marcus White Set For This Saturday

There will be a roadblock in the City of Water Valley from 7am-1pm on Saturday, November 17. It will be benefiting Marcus (Speedy) White. This event will help Marcus and his family with his rising medical costs and travel expenses and is sponsored by the Bayson Chapel Church Family.

Green Goshen C.M.E. Church Announces Cemetery Cleanup Day

 Green Goshen C.M.E. Church will have the annual Cemetery and Cleanup Day, Saturday, November 17, beginning at 8 a.m.
    “Everyone is urged to come out and help with this,” stated Pastor Sheryln Brown.

Oakland Wrestling Fundraiser Benefits Fire Department

    Maximum Championship Wrestling will present a fundraiser for the Oakland Police Department Saturday, November 17. The event will be held in the Oakland Fire Department.
  The doors open at 6 p.m. and bell time will be 7. General admission is $8, with kids 5 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Medicare Enrollment Coordinator To Help Seniors Thursday

  Open enrollment for Medicare began October 15, and runs through December 7. The time period allows you enough time to review and make changes to your coverage. This time ensures Medicare has enough time to process your choice, so your coverage can begin without interruption on January 1, 2013.
    The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) coordinator and volunteers will be in Grenada on Thursday, November 15, at The  Lewis Senior Citizens Complex. The SHIP program is administering through North Central Planning and Development District, Area Agency on Aging. To make an appointment call (662) 229-9936.

City Offices Close Thursday And Friday For Thanksgiving

    All City of Water Valley offices and departments will be closed Thursday, November 22, and Friday, November 23, to observe Thanksgiving holidays.
    Thursday’s garbage route will be picked up along with Wednesday’s garbage route. The commercial route will run as usual on Friday.

Watermelon Pageant Winners Encouraged To Participate In Parade

    All 2012 Watermelon Pageant Winners are encouraged to participate in this year’s Christmas parade. Each winner shall wear his/her crown and sash, and is responsible for their own transportation in the parade. Pleasant Agers Hosts Thanksgiving Event

  Pleasant Agers will meet Wed., Nov. 21, in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Calhoun County on County Road 231, across the Railroad on the left. A potluck lunch will be served at noon. Dwight and Marjorie Griffen from Tupelo will minister in music and song. Everyone is asked to bring one can of food for the Calhoun Baptist Association Pantry to be issued to those in need of food. Pastor Ron Jenkins invites everyone to attend this Thanksgiving event.


Pink Ladies Hold Annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale On Nov. 17

    The Yalobusha General Hospital and Yalobusha County Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) will hold their annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale on Saturday, November 17, in front of Turnage Drug Store. Come by and purchase your Thanksgiving goodies and take a chance on a beautiful quilt.

Masonic Meeting Set For Thursday

    St. Cyr Commandery will hold its next conclave at the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 15. All members are hereby notified that the meeting date has been changed due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Members will gather at 6 p.m. for their annual pot luck Thanksgiving supper. Family and friends are invited. Please make a special effort to attend and support your Commandery.
