Art Talk

By Andi Bedsworth

In this gift giving season, a lot of us are wondering what to buy for our friends and loved ones.
If you are looking for something unusual, then look no further than the local arts venues that are offering handmade artisan gifts. There are several places to go for handmade holiday gifts in town and close by.
Right in the Valley is Bozarts Gallery which now has a gift cart full of jewelry, small prints, ornaments, magnets, notecards, pottery, scarves and purses. All of these items are handmade by local artists and make great little gifts or stocking stuffers. The gallery is full of beautiful art as part of their Annual Holiday Miniature Show. Bozarts is open Tuesday-Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m. through Dec. 21.
J. Clayton’s Eclectic Arts Studio on Main Street also has handmade items from local artists. There is pottery, paintings, photography, and more in this arts venue. You can also get custom framing done in the store.
A short trip to Oxford this weekend will also provide shoppers with a large selection of handmade gifts.
The Holiday Market at the Powerhouse from Thursday, Dec. 13-Saturday, Dec. 15 will host over a dozen vendors offering baskets, jewelry, soap, paintings, notecards, ornaments, wood turned items, and many more artistic items.
The Market will open each day at 9 a.m., and there will be a free children’s art activity and artist demonstrations throughout the weekend as part of the event.
So boost the local economy by shopping nearby and cross some gifts off your list. Please send me any arts related news to
