Art Talk

By Andi Bedsworth

With this chilly weather, one wants to wrap up in a warm scarf and hat. If you do not have one or if you want some more, you are in for a big treat. Knit1 in Oxford is hosting their Third Annual Fiber Festival at the Powerhouse Jan. 25-27.
Having attended each and every one, I can tell you that this is a great festival. There are live demonstrations, workshops and vendors selling everything from Angora Bunnies to wool hats and all the materials to make your own creations. There will be a guest lecture on Friday by Shannon Okey on Knitwear as Fashion at 6 p.m. and workshops throughout the weekend including a weaving workshop on Monday at the shop in Oxford.
This is a family friendly event with live animals such as alpaca and children’s activities throughout the day. They can learn to finger knit for free, and other workshops are offered at a small fee. You can shop in the vendor stalls for yarn and supplies and also join in at the knit/crochet circle where people will bring their own projects to work on while resting their feet.
The workshops are filling up fast, so contact Knit1 as soon as possible to register. They range from needle felting to lace making. The doors open on Friday, Jan. 25th at 2pm and admission is 1.00 for a three day pass. More information can be found at http://www.knit1 oxford.com/.
