JA Sponsors 31st Annual Watermelon Pageant
The 31st Annual Watermelon Pageant, sponsored by the Junior Auxiliary of Water Valley, is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, beginning at 5 p.m. The pageant will be held in the Water Valley Civic Auditorium. Applications may be picked up at The Family Hairloom, Hair Trend, or Main Attraction. There is a $10 entry fee for all contestants and the deadline for entry is Tuesday, April 9, at 6 p.m. Please contact Kim Wilburn, Pageant Chairman, with any questions at 832-0411.
Pleasant Agers Meet March 20
Pleasant Agers will meet March 20 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Calhoun County on County Road 231, across the Railroad on the left. Meet and greet will begin at 11:30 a.m. A potluck lunch will be served at 12 p.m. Guests Dwight and Marjorie Griffin from Tupelo will minister in music and song. Pastor Justin Gates invites everyone to attend this special event.
March 18 Is Deadline To Register For ServSafe Class
A ServSafe food certification class will be taught April 16 and 17, beginning at 9 a.m. The certification exam will begin around 3 p.m. and should be completed by 5 p.m. on April 17. The class will be held at the Grenada County Extension Service office and the cost of the course is $135. The deadline to register is March 18.
There must be at least seven people registered by the deadline for the class to be held. Call Pamela at the Yalobusha County Extension Office at 662-675-2730 for additional details and to register. When calling to sign up, please inform the office of any disabilities that might interfere with your opportunity to participate in this program.
Valley Views Go On Sale In March
The 2012-13 Water Valley High School Valley Views annuals will go on sale beginning March 4-29 at a promotional cost of $45. After March the price will increase to $55, so reserve your annual now. The annuals are usually completed and shipped by mid-August. JA Plans Easter Egg Hunt
Junior Auxiliary of Water Valley will have an Easter Egg hunt March 23, beginning at 10 a.m. This will be for ages Pre-K thru 4th Grade and will be held in the Water Valley City Park. Refreshments will be served. There will also be face painting and pictures. Children in this age group are invited to come join in the fun.
Heart Disease Is Topic At YHS Meeting
The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet Thursday, March 21, at 2 p.m. in its headquarters (the former Presbyterian Church) in Coffeeville. The guest speaker will be Dr. John Evans, retired orthopedic surgeon, of the Summer-Webb area. His topic will be coronary artery disease. Visitors are welcome.
Annual Easter Activities Scheduled At Cossar State Park
Cossar State Park will hold annual Easter Activities Saturday, March 30. The egg hunt starts at 10 a.m., with games and activities after the egg hunt, which will be held behind the visitor center. The Easter Bunny will make a special appearance, along with Smokey the Bear, and Woodsy the Owl. Friends of Cossar will have a concession stand open.
Churches Invited To Participate In Planning For National Day Of Prayer
A planning meeting for the 2013 National Day of Prayer observance will be held in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19. Each church in the county is invited to send representatives to this meeting. The theme this year is “Pray For America” and the planning committee wants churches from across the county to take part in this year’s observance.
Adams Performs At VFW Dance
The regular VFW Post 4100 Saturday Night Dance will be held this week on March 16 in the Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Entertainment will be by Jason Adams from 8 p.m. until midnight.
“Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy listening, or dancing, to the music,” says Commander Sam Phillips. For those interested in playing the electronic VLC bingo machines the doors will open at 2 p.m.
VFW Promotes Twice-Weekly Bingo
VFW bingo will be played on Monday and Friday nights, March 15 and 18. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for fun filled evenings of bingo at their Post Home. The building opens at 2 p.m. on Monday, Friday, and Saturday for electronic VLC bingo machines. Regular bingo session sales start at 6 p.m. and the first of 24 games begin at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.
