Blackmur Hosts Events In Conjunction With National Library Week

    Blackmur Memorial Library will be hosting several events this week as part of National Library Week.
    On Thursday, April 18, at 9:30 a.m., parents can bring their children to the library for story time and a snack. That afternoon at 3:30 p.m. there will be a service dog demonstration.
    On Saturday, April 20, the community is invited to an open house at the library from 10-11:30 .m. The  open house will also kick off the library’s Bookmark Design Contest. Children will be able to pick up forms to enter the contest at that time.

May Fundraiser Benefits Camp Lakeside

Camp Lakeside will host their annual fundraiser Saturday, May 4, starting at 1 p.m. at the camp located south of Charleston off Tallaha Road.
There will be swimming, outdoor games, music, silent auction and cake auction as well as concession food all afternoon. Flippin Chicken will serve their famous chicken meal for $10, beginning at 4 p.m.
“Ladies, please bring your special cake, pie or baked items for auction,” said Ray Smith, publicity chairman.
Entertainment will be provided by the gospel group the Trailsmen Quartet starting at 6 p.m.
 “All proceeds will be used to support our local camp for children,” Smith added. “Please come and enjoy fun and music for the entire family and support this worthwhile organization.”

Annual Walton/Dowsing Scholarship Program Is Saturday

    The Miles Memorial CME Women’s Missionary Society invites the public to fellowship with them during the Walton/Dowsing Scholar-ship program on Saturday, April 20, at 6 p.m.  The program will be held at the Miles Memorial CME Church.


Author Will Share Highlights From Book At YHS Meeting

    Author Jane Bennett Gaddy will speak Thursday, April 18, at 2 p.m. at the regular Yalobusha Historical Society meeting in the society’s headquarters (former Coffeeville Presbyterian Church) in Coffeeville. Ms. Gaddy will share highlights of the first book in her Trilogy-The Mississippi Boys. Visitors are welcome.

Annual Iris Show Scheduled April 27

    The 18th Annual Iris Show, sponsored by the North Mississippi Lakes Iris Society, is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, beginning at 1 p.m. The show will be held in the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 1020 N. Awards Day Set For April 19 At Water Valley High School

    Water Valley High School Awards Day will be held Friday, April 19, in the Water Valley Civic Auditorium.  Parents of students who will be recognized will receive an invitation with details.

Cancer Survivors Invited To Attend Survivor Dinner

All cancer survivors are invited to attend the 2013 Yalobusha County Relay For Life Survivor Dinner. The dinner will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, at Crawford Sports Complex.  Survivors will register and then receive a survivor t-shirt and a delicious meal provided by the Water Valley Rotary Club.

Come Out And ‘Pray For America’
During National Day of Prayer
    The National Day of Prayer observance in Water Valley will be held Thursday, May 2, at noon, in the Crawford Sports Complex at the flagpole. The theme is “Pray for America.” In case of inclement weather the observance will be held in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church.
    “Everyone is invited to attend. We are hoping to fill the complex with people who want to pray for America,” stated Linda Williamson, publicity chair for this event.


Class Of 1968 To Hold Planning Meeting Friday Night

The Class of 1968 will hold a reunion planning meeting Friday night, April 19, beginning at 7 p.m. in the former Water Valley Bank building on the corner of Main and Wood Streets. For information contact Ann Still at 473-3311.

Classes On Tuesdays And Thursdays
    Zumba classes are being held at Sanders Chapel Life Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Gentiva Hospices Holds Memorial For Patients Who Passed In December

    Gentiva Hospice of Oxford (formerly North Mississippi Hospice) will hold its memorial service for patients who passed between December 1 and December 31, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 21.
    The service will be held in Batesville at the Calvary Baptist Church. All friends and family of former patients are invited. Call Gentiva at 662-234-0140 for more information.
