Many people think of the Double Decker Festival as a one day event, but this event has grown over the years, and the 2013 festival includes many related events spread throughout this week. Every year there is a Juried Artists’ Show as part of the festival, and the Powerhouse needs your help in choosing the People’s Choice Award. The judging process is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Friday will be a busy day on the Courthouse Lawn as the Oxford Artists’ Guild will be hosting an artist’s fair in conjunction with the Yokna-patawpha Arts Council. There will be art for sale from over 20 guild artists as well as demonstrations throughout the day.
Studio tours are back this year and depart from Skipwith Cottage where they will take visitors to the studios of Jason Bouldin, Jere Allen, Paula Temple, and Ron Dale. Tickets are $8 and these and class tickets can be purchased by going to http://www.doubledeckerfestival.com/.
The University Museum also has activities planned in celebration of the arts. “Muses and Metaphor” will be the Brown Bag Panel Discussion held on Friday, April 26 from noon- to 1 p.m. by Bo Bartlett, Betsy Eby, and William Dunlap at the museum. Six Paintings by Bo Barlett including an Oxford American video about the artist will be on display. Thursday, April 25, there will be a lecture by Mr. Bartlett at 3 p.m. at the Jackson Events Center at 2530 West Jackson Avenue with a reception to follow.
As you can see the festival is growing, so get out there, and enjoy all that our community has to offer.
