Art Talk
It was a whirlwind week for artists and art patrons alike with art receptions, show openings, the art crawl and the 18th Annual Double Decker Festival in Oxford. I hope you were able to enjoy some or most of it. There are still some great shows in Oxford, and I will point out some highlights.
Bo Bartlett has some really stellar work at the University Museum. The paintings are vastly large and will take your breath away. The Art Department sponsored his visit and lectures last week, and the museum hosted him and his work. The paintings are on loan from a private collection and will be at the gallery through July 13th. There are two photography shows up in the galleries including the new show Into the Flatlands: Photographs by Kathleen Robbins. This is a wonderful collection of the photographer’s personal photos taken in the Delta.
Southside Gallery has a stunning show featuring work by Charlie Buckley, Ashley Chavis and Virginia Rougon Chavis. Buckley’s landscapes are boldly colored and richly textured causing the viewer to linger at each piece. Rougon Chavis’ pieces are interesting and full of layers and stitching making them hard to resist as well. Ashley Chavis’ pottery is a nice complement to this strong show which is well curated.
Make your way to Oxford to see the treasure trove of art that is on display. Also send me your arts related work to arttogollc@gmail.com.
