Summer is almost here and several fun colorful art shows are on exhibit in nearby Oxford for your viewing pleasure.
Both the Frame Up on the square and Honey Bee Bakery on West Jackson have art on their walls that are worth seeing.
Honey Bee Bakery at 2305 West Jackson is showing work by artist Hilary Maslon.
The sophisticated color palette and fun shapes and textures in the work make it really interesting, and it is a great fit in this venue adding color and pop to the walls. This collection is composed of old and new work, paintings and photographs. It is a fun show, and some of the abstract forms even reminded me of food as I peered up at them in this cozy restaurant. Hours vary by day so call 662-236-2490 for more information.
At the Frame Up Basement Gallery which is located at 125 Courthouse Square has a show with work by Jason “J-Man” Heavner. If you have never been down into this space, it is worth a peek. J-Man’s work is a cross between folk artists Theora Hamblett and Lamar Sorrento. It is fun, lively, colorful, and will make you giggle at some of its edginess. He is a clever painter with a great sense of humor and frivolity that is contagious.
His inspirations range from Faulkner, Oxford and Andy Warhol making this collection a fusion of pop and folk art. Please send me your arts related news at firstname.lastname@example.org.
