City Offices Close For Fourth

The City of Water Valley offices and departments will be closed Thursday, July 4, 2013 to observe Independence Day.
Thursday’s garbage route will run as usual.

Class Of 1983 Celebrates Reunion

    The Water Valley Class of 1983 will have their 30-year reunion Saturday, August 3, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Water Valley VFW Post on Highway 315, west of Water Valley. Finger foods will be served. Entertainment will be provided by DJ Bob Murphree. Individuals will be $25 each and couples will be $40.
    Money may be sent to Holly Hill Taylor, 120 CR 373, Water Valley, MS 38965. Please make checks payable to Water Valley Class of 83. Come Make Memories And New Beginnings At Oakland Homecoming

The Oakland gathering, Memories and New Beginnings, will be held Saturday, July 6, at the Oakland Fire Department behind Town Hall starting at 10:30 a.m. with a potluck. Among other events will be a presentation by Friends of Oakland and a car and motorcycle display.
Featured entertainment will be Prestis Goodwin of Memphis, singer/guitar picker/song writer who has performed at Opryland and on TNN. Donations will be appreciated to help purchase needed items for the Oakland Fire Dept. The Farmer’s Market will also be open.  

Renasant Seeks Art Displays From Local Artists

Renasant Bank is looking for artists of all ages to display their work in Water Valley. Paintings, photography, quilts, multimedia,  drawings, collages (two-dimensional work that is able to hang on a wall) would be accepted. All works must be ready to hang with proper frames and wires for hanging. If interested please call Pati D’Amico at 473-0972.
WVHS Will Be Open To Visitors During Watermelon Carnival
  Water Valley High School will be open to visitors from 10:30 a.m.-12-30 p.m. Saturday morning, August 3, during Watermelon Carnival Weekend. Principal Glenn Kitchens will be in the office and available to visitors who would like to take a look around the building.

Tummy Safe Class And Exam Offered At Grenada Ext. Service

The Tummy Safe Certification Class and Exam for daycare workers will be offered on Thursday, August 1, at the Grenada County Extension Service in Grenada.  The class will begin at 9 a.m. and the exam will begin at 2:30 p.m. The cost to take the class and/or the exam is $100, which can be paid by money order or cashiers check.  
Space is limited and you must register and pay your fees by July 25, to be considered registered for the class.  Registration fees are non-refundable.  If you have any questions or would like to find out how to purchase your copy of the Tummy Safe CD, contact Pamela Redwine at (662) 675-2730 or your local MSU- Extension Service.

Eastern Star Sets Date For Meeting

    Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star, will have their next meeting Tuesday, July 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. Members are urged to make an effort to attend.

Maker’s Market On Oxford Square Held Monthly On First Saturday

  The Oxford Maker’s Market will be located on the Oxford Square Saturday, July 6, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Everyone is invited to come out for some great local art and music. This is a family friendly event and refreshments are free!
  The Oxford’s Maker’s Market is an art market based in Oxford. It occurs every first Saturday. The Maker’s Market is committed to local and underexposed talent. “We try to showcase different artists, musicians and a variety of media at each event,” states Jason M. Heavner.
