Oxford Authors Speak At August YHS Meeting
Margaret and Katherine King, Oxford authors of “Y’all Twins?” will be the August 15 speakers at the regular meeting of the Yalobusha Historical Meeting. The meeting is scheduled at 2 p.m. in the YHS headquarters, the former Coffeeville Presbyterian Church. Visitors are welcome.
Wrestling Superstars Return To Oakland Fire Department
Maximum Champion Wrestling Superstars will return to the Oakland Fire Department for a fundraiser Saturday, August 10. The door will open at 6 p.m. and bell time is 7. General admission is $8 and kids 10 and under are free. Come out and support your local fire department. Imagine what it would be like without your local fire department—they need your help and support.
Diabetic Wellness Team Meets At Mt. Moriah Association Building
The Yalobusha County Diabetes Wellness Team will meet at the Mt. Moriah Association building in the J.C. Hentz Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, August 13, beginning at 4 p.m. The presenter for this month will be Ms. Lisa Doerig, Mississippi Diabetes Educator.
The public is invited to attend and receive education on diabetes, which is swiftly becoming a terrifying force in our community. Mrs. Dorothy Kee is chairperson of the group, Mrs. Mamie H. Shields is County Diabetes Coordinator, and Pastor Amos Sims is moderator of the Mt. Moriah Association.

O’Tuckolofa Alumni Host Reunion
Students, family, and friends of O’Tuckolofa School are invited to the annual O’Tuckolofa School class reunion at O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church. The reunion will take place on August 10, beginning with a time of fellowship at 10 a.m. and lunch to follow at 11 a.m. After lunch there will be a time of reminiscing and fellowship. “Please join us for a wonderful time,” says Lisa Kay Bryant. Valley Views Have Arrived
The 2012-13 Water Valley High School Valley Views annuals have arrived. If you prepaid for an annual in the spring, you may see Mrs. King at the high school to pick up your annual. If you did not purchase one and wish to do so, there are a few extras for $55. Extra annuals from 2009, 2011, and 2012 are also available for $25.
‘Waiting’ Opens Friday At Yalo
“Waiting,” an installation by artist Andrea Ray will open Friday, Aug. 9, with a reception from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Yalo Studio and Gallery at 303 North Main Street. The studio will be converted to represent the waiting room of a railroad station and gallery visitors will become part of the experience by sitting…and waiting.
“Everyone is welcome to come. The more people who are there, the more the experience will be like a train station waiting room,” said Coulter Fussell of Yalo Studio. Train sounds will be heard on Main Street as part of the show, which will run through Sept. 7. Studio hours are Tuesday through Saturday from noon until 5 p.m.
