JA Sells Chances On Big Screen Television At Football Games
The Junior Auxiliary of Water Valley is offering a 50″ Sanyo television for a raffle fundraiser. Purchase one ticket for $1 or six tickets for $5. Visit the JA table at the concession building at any home game before homecoming. The drawing will be held at homecoming. You do not have to be present to win.
If you do not attend the games, tickets can be purchased from a JA member or at Jay Gee’s on South Main Street. The TV will be on display at Jay Gee’s. The proceeds from this raffle will fund Junior Auxiliary projects in the Water Valley community.
City Offices Close For Labor Day
All City of Water Valley offices and departments will be closed Monday, September 2, to observe the Labor Day holiday.
Monday’s garbage route will run as usual. Tuesday will be a day of grace for paying utility bills. The commercial garbage route will run Monday.
Head Start Begins School Tuesday
Water Valley Head Start will begin school Tuesday, September 3, beginning at 8 a.m. Water Valley Center is accepting applications for three and four year olds for the upcoming 2013-14 year.
The center will be open for registation August 29 and 30, from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. If you have not registered, or you need to complete your registration package, come by the school on these two days. If you have any questions call 473-1552.
Bingo Action Continues On Mondays At VFW Post
VFW Bingo will be played Monday night in the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, West of Water Valley.
The doors open at 5 p.m., sales begin at 6, and the first of 24 games will be played at 7. “Come out and meet new VFW Commander Mike Taylor and enjoy yourself with great people,” invites VFW member Jack Grass.
Monthly Water Association Meeting Set For Tuesday
The Jeff Davis Rural Water Association holds its regular monthly meeting the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the building located at 13589 Highway 32 West. These meetings, as always, are open meetings. To be placed on the agenda, please call ahead at 473-2762.
The meeting for September 2, 2013 (Labor Day) will be held September 3, beginning at 7 p.m.

The family of Vernon Estel Denley and Annie Mae Hutchinson Denley are having a family reunion September 1, at Persimmon Hill Pavilion 583. Arts Council Seeks Participants For Christmas Parade
The Water Valley Arts Council is looking for participants for the annual Christmas Parade who will decorate their bike, small buggy, baby stroller, wagon or other small non-electric/gas vehicle.
“We will be part of the yearly Christmas parade, which is happening this year on Saturday, Dec. 7,” said Pati D’Amico, coordinator for this portion of the event for the Arts Council.
D’Amico recommends decorating in festive, sparkly colors of the season (reds, greens, golds, silver). “The sparklier and funnier, the better,” she added. “Just in good taste, please.”
The Arts Council is also looking for people who can play an instrument or two. “I will have kazoos available for all,” D’Amico added. All ages are invited to participate. For additional information contact D’Amico at 473-0972.

The Water Valley Arts Council will be holding it’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 3 at 6:30, at the Water Valley Main St Assn office (207 N Main St) Water Valley.

Hyde Performs At VFW Dance
The regular VFW Saturday night dance will be held August 31, with Mike Hyde providing the music from 8 p.m. until 12 midnight.
The dance is held in the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.
