Art Talk

By Andi Bedsworth

The Powerhouse in Oxford has just released the 2014 season for their Powerhouse Gallery Series. It gets chosen by members in the community and this public input makes for a great lineup.
January will open up with the 3rd Annual Fiber Arts Show. February will host a show featuring all women guest artists. In March, they will host the 3rd Annual Student Art Exhibition. The Double Decker Juried Show will be up in the gallery during the month of April to coincide with the popular festival of the same name.
The summer will heat up with a Garden Show in May. Cathead Vodka will sponsor a fun show called Art in a Bottle during June. They will provide the bottles for the artists, and the artwork will have to incorporate the bottle in some way.  Artists will get to honor their favorite furry friends in My Pets held in July. In August, there will be Macrame’ and Other Unappreciated Art. This show will celebrate all art forms that are not deemed honorable for regular gallery space. Expect to see string art, cross stitch, macramé, crocheted dollies and more.
Black and White will focus on work done in only those two colors during September. The year will finish out with a Southern Food-ways Alliance show in October and the Biggest Baddest Art Show put on by the Oxford Artist Guild in November and December. Plan to visit during the coming year for this fun schedule of shows. Please send me your arts related news to
