Living Well In Yalobusha County

September Is A Busy Month At The Extension Service

By Pamela Redwine

Our next 4-H meeting for both the older group (ages 10-18) and the Clover Buds (ages 5-9) will be Thursday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.  Please remember that we will be collecting pet care items to donate to the Oxford Lafayette Human Society.  We will also start collecting items to make our sun catchers for the nursing home. Items needed include: translucent pony beads in variety of colors, silver floral or jewelry wire, medium size metal cookie cutters in variety of shapes (we can just borrow these) and small to medium size suction cups with hooks.
Also on Thursday, Sept. 19, our crochet group will meet in the Extension office in Coffeeville at 10 a.m. This is a free program and is led by volunteers Liz Bowman and Karol Jarmon. Bring a crochet hook and some yarn and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and learn a new craft.
The Mississippi State Fair will be held in Jackson, Oct. 2-13. As a thank you to all our 4-H volunteers, 4-H members and their immediate families, Saturday, Oct. 12 is being observed as 4-H Day. All 4-H volunteers, members and their immediate families can get in free on Oct. 12th from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m! You must have a ticket which is available free by contacting me at the Extension office by Sept. 27.
The Healthy You Exercise class meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m. The class is free and is open to the public. Please wear cool comfortable clothes, good walking shoes and bring water to drink. We are using light weights (1, 2 or 3 pounds). Weights are optional, and you can still get a good workout not using the weights.
We are currently trying to start a 4-H sewing club.  We need adults who can sew to help with this club.  If you are an adult who can sew and you want to find out more about this or if you would like to help, please attend an interest/organizational meeting on Monday, Sept. 23,  at 4 p.m. at the Extension Office located inside the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville. You can also contact me at 675-2730 or at pamelar@ext.msstate.edu for more information.
