Halloween Activities Planned At Cossar State Park

    Cossar State Park will host Halloween activities at the park on November 2. The fun-filled night gets underway at 7 p.m. and continues until 9 p.m. Activities include a haunted trail, games and a cake walk.


Arts Council Seeks Participation For Entries In Christmas Parade

The Water Valley Arts Council is inviting members of the community to participate in their first “Decorate your bike, wagon, (anything on wheels) or walking group which would be part of the annual Christmas Parade.  No electric or gas vehicles in walking group-just decorated fun, small vehicles.(wagons, strollers,bikes)

Herald Columnist Speaks At Historical Society Meeting

The Yalobusha Historical Society will meet Thursday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. in its headquarters, the former Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville. Charles Cooper, columnist, will be the guest speaker. Visitors are welcome.

Vietnam Vets, Widows Invited To VFW Lunch In Bruce

  The VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post 5571, invites every Vietnam veterans and the widows  to join VFW Post 5571 in Bruce on November 23, at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and entertainment.
    “We want to express our thanks and appreciation for your service to our country. We will need a head count for lunch,” stated Mary Clark.  Halloween Fun Planned At Library

    A Halloween party will be held at Blackmur Memorial Library Saturday, October 26, between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m.
    The action gets underway at 4 p.m. with face painting, trick or treat bags and MORE!
    Story time follows at 5 p.m. with ghost and goblins and things that go bump in the night. The action continues from 5:30 to 6 with snacks, drinks and prizes for best costumes
    A tailgating trick or treat is offered at 6. Wear your fantasy costumes and have fun!
    Halloween at the library is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

VFW Sets Annual Meeting For Thursday

    The regular monthly business meeting for VFW Post 4100 will be held Thursday, October 17, in the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. “All members are urged to attend,” stated Commander Michael Taylor.

Jason Adams Band Performs At Saturday Night VFW Dance

    The regular VFW Saturday night dance will be held October 19, in the Post Home, located at 11535 Hwy. 315, west of Water Valley. The Jason Adams Band will provide the entertainment from 8 p.m. until midnight.
  Bobby Hood will be the entertainment for the Saturday Night Dance, plus a Halloween Costume Contest and Party, on October 26, from 8 p.m.-12 midnight.
  “Everyone is invited to attend both of these dances,” stated Michael Taylor, Commander.

Annual Bell Family Reunion Is Sunday

  The annual James D. Bell family reunion will be held this Sunday, October 20, at Cossar State Park, located on Highway 32, between Water Valley and Oakland.
  All family and friends are invited to attend.


Education Meeting At Bayson Chapel Is Canceled

  The education meeting scheduled Saturday, October 19, in Bayson Chapel Church, with Mr. Chrestman, school superintendent; Dr. Carol Gary, principal of Davidson Elementary School; Dr. Glen Kitchens, principal of Water Valley High School along with local pastors in the community has been postponed until further notice.

Pine Valley Fire Department Hosts Haunted Hollow

    The Pine Valley Fire Department’s 2013 annual haunted hollow will be held Saturday, October 19, 7 p.m. until midnight; Friday, October 25, 7 p.m. until midnight; and Saturday, October 26, 7 p.m. until midnight. Admission will be $7 per person.


Rock And Roll Is Theme For Oakland Christmas Parade

    The Oakland Christmas parade is scheduled Saturday, December 7, at 3 p.m. This year’s theme is a Rock and Roll Christmas. The cost to enter is $10 and organizers are seeking floats, vehicles, motorcycles and others from churches, businesses, organizations or individuals.
