Pictures With Santa Will Kick Off Fun-Filled Parade Day

    Starting off pre-activities of the annual Water Valley Christmas Parade Saturday, December 7, will be Santa Claus arriving at the Bandstand to visit and have his picture made with the young children.
    “Santa Claus enjoyed last year’s visit with all of the young children and is looking forward to this year’s visit,” stated J. C. Womble, Parade Chairman. Pictures of each child will be made.
  All churches, businesses, factories, school groups, and individuals are urged to participate in the parade. If you would like to enter a unit or float in the parade contact, J. C. Womble at 473-3190, or email jcwomble53@yahoo.com or Bobby Murphree at 473-2501 to register your entry for the parade. There is “NO” entry fee. Use your imagination and make plans to participate in the parade. The Water Valley Christmas Parade is sponsored by the Tri-lakes Fairground Association.


Stage Play Musical ‘The Color Pink’ Returns By Special Request

A special performance of the Color Pink, a stage play musical, is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 9, at the City Auditorium in Water Valley.
Back by special request, the curtains will open at 6 p.m. as the seven-member cast portrays how cancer affects a family to help promote cancer awareness. Cast members include Terry Rockette, LaToya Weeks, Matthew Sledge, Zipora Hudson, Shontreal Hunt and others.
Reserved seating is available for $10 until Nov. 6. General admission tickets also cost $10. For more information, contact Rockette at 662-236-2680 or 563-265-2522.


Benefit Program Will Help Savely With Medical Expenses

    A benefit program for Richard Wayne Savely will be held Saturday, November 16, starting at 5  p.m. in the Coffeeville Fire Department on Main Street. Richard is the son of Dorothy Hughes and a step-son of Boyd Hughes.
    He came to Coffeeville in the early ‘90s, where he was employed at The Other Place Lumber Company. He worked there, along with Boyd, until his health began to fail him several months ago. He has had heart surgery and is currently on dialysis.
    Organizers  are asking everyone to join in helping him in his time of need. Arts Council Seeks Participants For Unique Parade Display

    The Water Valley Arts Council will be part of the yearly Christmas Parade, which will be held December 7. The Arts Council is having a “Decorate Your Bike, Wagon, Stroller” (anything non electric or gas), and parade during the Christmas Parade. Festive fun attire is welcomed as well.

City Offices Close Monday For Veteran’s Day

The City of Water Valley City Hall and departments  will be closed Monday November 11, 2013 to observe Veteran’s Day Holiday. Monday’s garbage route will run as usual.

Contributions Needed For Upkeep Of Camp Ground Cemetery

 Funds are sorely needed for the upkeep of Camp Ground Cemetery. Maintenance for the grounds runs about $2,800 per spring and summer season. Although, mowing season if over for this year funds will be needed for next season. If you have loved ones in this cemetery, please contribute for its continued care.

Vietnam Veterans And Widows Invited To VFW Post For Lunch

 The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 5571 invites all Vietnam veterans and their widows in Calhoun County to the VFW Post in Bruce Saturday, November 23, at  11:30 for lunch and entertainment to express our thanks and appreciation for their service.

However, if you find that you can attend at the last minute please be sure to come for this special service in your honor.


Annual American Legion Fish Fry Is November 12

    The American Legion will have their annual Fish Fry on Tuesday, November 12, beginning at 6 p.m. This event will be  held in the hut, which is located on Calhoun Street. All members and guests are urged to attend.

YHS Volunteers Will Tackle Cleanup At Two Cemeteries

    The Yalobusha Historical Society will be repairing and cleaning two adjacent cemeteries on Saturday, November 16th.  They are the Thompson and Barksdale cemeteries off the old Torrance or Kirkland Landing road.
    There was a great turnout for the Airmount-Hamblett cleanup which was a pretty big job. These next two are much smaller and will allow for more chiefs and less indians.
    Hope to see you at 9 a.m. on the 16th  when volunteers will roll out from the Historical Society Library Building in Coffeeville.
