Local Relay For Life Teams Request Your Donation

    Did you know that in Mississippi in 2013 there were 15,830 new cases of cancer, there are 82 counties with 193 new cancer cases per county and there were 6,300 deaths due to cancer.
    A Relay For Life event raising $30,000 could give each new cancer case just $155 each. This doesn’t include existing cases still undergoing treatment and care. A RFL event raising $60,000 could give each new case $310 each.
    Please give your donation today to any RFL Team Member or any Committee Member. The donations will help the teams money for the annual Relay For Life event, scheduled Friday, May 2. For more information call Ethel Morgan, Event Chairman, at 473-1658, or Jeannie Clement at 473-3589.

Masonic Chapters Hold Meetings On March 13

    McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM and J.J. Melton Council No. 50 R&SM will hold their next stated meetings on Thursday, March 13, beginning at 7 p.m., in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. All members are reminded to attend.

Keith Is Speaker At March Historical Society Meeting

    Spencer Keith is the scheduled speaker for the Yalobusha Historical Meeting scheduled Thursday, March 20. Keith’s topic will be the Battle of Brice’s Crossroads in June, 1864.
    The meeting will be held at the Historical Society headquarters, located in the former Presbyterian Church in Coffeeville.


Financial Aid Workshop Offered For Water Valley Seniors

A financial aid workshop will be held at Water Valley High School on Monday, March 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The workshop will assist parents in completing the FAFSA application for current seniors. Parents, please bring your 2013 filed income tax information.


Gardening Is Topic At Yalobusha County’s MHV Monthly Meeting

Yalobusha County MHV will have its monthly meeting Tuesday, March 18, in the Multi-Purpose Building at Coffeeville. Dr. John Keeler will be the special speaker at 10 a.m. and he will speak on gardening. Everyone is ready to get started in the garden and the time is almost here. Please attend to learn all the information Dr. Keeler will provide on gardening as spring approaches.

Spring Hill Church Offers Chitterling Plates This Weekend

Come Learn About Bats During Saturday’s Program At
Enid’s Visitor Education Center
    The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Visitor Education Center (VEC) adjacent to Enid Lake will host a program about bats on Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m. This program focuses on Mississippi bat species, bat diets, bat habitats and more.
     Presenting the program is the Mississippi Bat Working Group, a non-profit group supporting bat conservation through education and research.  Admission is $2.50 for adults ages 18-59, and $2 for youth ages 3-17 and adults over the age of 60.  For more information, call the VEC at (662) 563-8068.
    The VEC is part of the MDWFP North Mississippi Fish Hatchery and is located at Exit 233 east off I-55.

Cub Scout Pack 14 Schedules Pinewood Derby Race For Saturday On Brand New Track

    Members of the Cub Scout Pack 14 are having their Pinewood Derby race, this  Saturday, March the 15 at 12:30 at Davidson Elementary School. Check-in time is 9 a.m. for all the scouts. The races will start after lunch around 12:30.
 Everyone is welcome to attend. Please come out and join us for a fun filled day of racing. Pack 14 would like to thank the First United  Methodist Church of Water Valley for their support and donations. They would also like to thank the businesses and the entire community of Water Valley for all their support and donations to support the first year Water Valley has it’s very own Pinewood Derby tracks.

County 4-H FSC Clubs Plan Countywide Yard Sale

    The 4-H FCS clubs (Yalobusha Buddies and Clover Buds) will be hosting a Countywide Yard Sale Saturday, April 5, from 7 a.m. until noon.
    You may reserve your 10×10 space by calling the Extension Office at 675-2730. Spaces are $15 each. Get rid of your old stuff, make some money, and support Yalobusha 4-H all at the same time! For more information call Pamela or Lisa at the Extension Office.

Voice Of American Revolution Topic Of SAR Meeting

    Judge Joseph E. “Toby” Winston of Pontotoc will be guest speaker at the Thursday, March 13th meeting at 6:00 p.m. of the Daniel McKie Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution (“SAR”), at the Lafayette County & Oxford Library.  Anyone may attend.  
    Judge Winston, Vice-Pres. of the MS Society of the SAR, will speak on Patrick Henry, the “voice of the American Revolution.”
