Art Talk

By Andi Bedsworth

Last week, I promised to give some more information on Ed Croom and the work he will show on the feature wall of the mirror gallery at Bozarts in June. Croom is a new member of the Bozarts Alliance having joined this past winter. He is a botanist by trade and a photographer by passion.
The way that he mixes these two disciplines produces thoughtful and exquisitely detailed images that are appealing to plant lovers and even those who do not have a green thumb.
For this exhibit, he has taken photos around the cabin and property he bought in Water Valley eight years ago. He prefers the light at dusk and dawn, and really loves to take photos on early misty mornings.
The photos reflect different plants growing at different times of the year on the property and nearby landscape visible from it. A similar project that he completed at Rowan Oak was well received last year at a show at the University Museum.
Looking at each season and the plant life abundant during it was a photographic story that was intriguing to follow. Since I am familiar with that body of work, I can say with confidence that this collection will be equally interesting. Even more so to this community as it features the beauty of the Valley.
Croom’s work will be just the compliment to the show in the front gallery, Un-Still Life which will open on Friday, May 31, at 403 Main Street with a reception from 6-9 p.m. More on that show and the upcoming Pine Valley Music and Arts fest next week.
