Sawmill Festival Golf Tournament Is July 12
The Sawmill Festival Golf Tournament, “Freedom From Business” will be held Saturday, July 12, at Yoda Creek Golf Course in Bruce. The Tournament is sponsored by the Bruce Lions Club. Players will receive a Festival Cap, lunch, and a chance on a door prize. Prizes will be awarded in several categories. For more information call Yoda Creek at (662) 983-9632.
Multi-Class Reunion Planned In Conjunction With Festival
A multi-class reunion for WVHS alumni will be held Friday night, Aug. 1, beginning at 7 p.m. The gathering is being planned and hosted by a group of former students from the 60s. But, it is not just for the 60s classes, everyone is welcome with emphasize on the 50s, 60s and 70s. The gathering will be held in the “meeting room” building behind the Little Professionals Day Care at 521 North Court Street. There is plenty of parking and some RV hookups are available. The event will include a potluck supper, same as in the past. The food can be purchased or homemade.
Plates, ice, cups, cutlery, napkins will be furnished. If you can’t bring anything just bring yourself. Dress is very casual, according to planners. Masonic Chapters Schedule July 10 Meeting
McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM and J. J. Melton Council No. 50 R&SM will hold their next stated meetings Thusday, July 10, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. All members are hereby notified that the meeting time has been changed to 7:30 p.m. until further notice and are requested to make a special effort to attend.
Multiple Musicians Perform At Gospel Music Jubilee
A gospel music jubilee will be held in the Gore Springs Community Center July 12, beginning at 6 p.m. Admission will be $5. The jubilee will feature the Masters Quartet, Messiah’s Men, the Slanton Family, and others. A concession stand with hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks, coffee, popcorn, and home-made desserts will be open. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy a night of good entertainment.
Bobby Hood Band Provides Music At VFW Dance
Providing the music for the regular VFW Saturday night dance on July 12 will be the Bobby Hood Band. The dance begins at 8 p.m. and continues to midnight. Everyone is invited to come out to Post 4100’s Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 7, west of Water Valley and enjoy dancing or listening to the music Saturday night.
VEC Hosts Bird Feeder Program
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Visitor Education Center (VEC) adjacent to Enid Lake will host a bird feeder program on Saturday, July 19 at 2 p.m. Participants will learn how to make feeders from natural items as well as items found around the house. Participants will also learn some interesting facts about common birds seen at backyard feeders.
Supplies will be provided along with easy-to-follow instructions and hands-on help. Those participating should come dressed to create messy but interesting treats for their feathered visitors!
The program is free with the price of admission. Space for this program is limited, therefore, interested persons are asked to register by calling the VEC at (662) 563-8068. Admission is $2.50 for adults ages 18-59, and $2.00 for youth ages 3-17 and adults over the age of 60.
The VEC is part of MDWFP North Mississippi Fish Hatchery and is located at Exit 233 east off I-55.
