Multi-Class Reunion Planned In Conjunction With Festival

A multi-class reunion for WVHS alumni will be held Friday night, Aug. 1, beginning at 7 p.m. The gathering is being planned and hosted by a group of former students from the 60s. But, it is not just for the 60s classes, everyone is welcome with emphasize on the 50s, 60s and 70s. The gathering will be held in the “meeting room” building behind the Little Professionals Day Care at 521 North Court Street. There is plenty of parking and some RV hookups are available. The event will include a potluck supper, same as in the past. The food can be purchased or homemade.
Plates, ice, cups, cutlery, napkins will be furnished. If you can’t bring anything just bring yourself. Dress is very casual, according to planners. Also, attendees are urged to bring photos and memorabilia. A slide projector is also available. For more information or to find out what food items to bring, please call 473-2236 or 473-1400.

VEC Hosts Bird Feeder Program

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Visitor Education Center (VEC) adjacent to Enid Lake will host a bird feeder program on Saturday, July 19 at 2 p.m. Participants will learn how to make feeders from natural items as well as items found around the house. Participants will also learn some interesting facts about common birds seen at backyard feeders.
Supplies will be provided along with easy-to-follow instructions and hands-on help. Those participating should come dressed to create messy but interesting treats for their feathered visitors!
The program is free with the price of admission.  Space for this program is limited, therefore, interested persons are asked to register by calling the VEC at (662) 563-8068.  Admission is $2.50 for adults ages 18-59, and $2.00 for youth ages 3-17 and adults over the age of 60.
The VEC is part of MDWFP North Mississippi Fish Hatchery and is located at Exit 233 east off I-55.

Classes Of 1958 And 1961 Hold Joint Reunion

WVHS classes of 1958 and 1961 will again host an annual get together for class members, their friends and families.  Please make plans to attend between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug.  2.  Please try to be there at 12 noon for photograph opportunities.  As in previous years, this informal reunion will be held in the North Main St. Church of Christ fellowship hall located on the corner of North Main and Wise Streets.  
Snacks and soft drinks will be provided by class members. Volunteers are always appreciated. Bring old photos and memorabilia if you have some you would like to share. Organizers hope to see you there for a day of renewing old friendships in this cool and comfortable setting.      
 

Big Buck Contest Scheduled At Calhoun County Fair

    The Calhoun County Fair and Livestock’s Big Buck Contest will be held Saturday, July 26, with registration and scoring starting at 9 a.m. and continuing until 1 p.m. The contest is for typical and non-typical, with a limit of two mounts per person. There is a $10 per mount entry fee. First prize is $50 in typical and non-typical. There will be an adult and youth division.
    The contest is for whitetail deer only. Contact the Calhoun County Extension Office at (662) 412-3177 for more information.
