By Pamela Redwine

The Yalobusha County Extension Service’s Family and Consumer Science program will sponsor a Women’s Self Defense and Firearms Familiarization Class on Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. each day.  This class will use the R.A.D. System.
This course focuses on education and awareness. The course includes lecture, discussion and self-defense techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities. Each participant will need to bring an unloaded gun and ammunition – separate from the gun, as well as ear and eye protection.  The cost of the class is $5, which covers light refreshments. Space is limited. Call the Extension Service at 675-2730 to register.
The Do it Yourself Chalk Painting Class scheduled for Monday, August 25th from 6-8 p.m. is full.  If you are interested in attending a chalk painting class please call the Extension Office to put your name on the waiting list. We will be scheduling another class in the near future.
The Crochet group will meet on Thursday, August 21 at 10 a.m. This group is free and is open to the public. If you would like to learn to crochet or if you would just like a group to meet with to work on your crocheting, this is the group for you. We hope you will join us.
The Healthy You Exercise Group meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Extension Office.  Join us for up to 45 minutes of low impact physical activity.  If you come, make sure you wear comfortable, cool clothes, good walking shoes and bring some water to drink.  The monthly nutrition lesson will be directly after the exercise class at 9:45 a.m. on August 20th.
The Sewing for Service Group will meet on Monday, August 18 from 10 a.m. until 2 p .m.  This group is open and is free to the public.
The United Y.C. MHV Club will meet on Tuesday, August 19 at 9 a.m.  During this meeting we will discuss the Holiday House which will be held October 25. At 10 a.m. we will work on tote bags for Blair Batson Children’s Hospital. For this project you will need 1/2 yard of fabric, matching thread and two yards of matching ribbon. Please try to attend.  New members welcome to attend.
Our next 4-H Clover Buds (ages 5-8) and Yalobusha Buddies (ages 8-18) meeting will be Thursday, August 21 at 4 p.m. at the Extension Office located inside the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville. Since it is the beginning of the school year, this is a great extracurricular activity to get your children involved in and there are volunteer opportunities for adults too. Please call 675-2730 to let us know your child will be attending or for more information about 4-H.
