Living Well In Yalobusha County

It’s Time To Order Your MSU Cheese For The Holidays

By Pamela Redwine

It is hard to believe it, but it is time to order your MSU cheese if you want it in time for the holiday season.  You can contact the Yalobusha County Extension Service at 675-2730 or visit www.msu cheese.com for an order form (which has the list of different cheeses and price).  If you do not order through our office please make sure to mark on your order form that Yalobusha Extension Service will pick up, then let us know that we will need to pick up your cheese.
We had so much fun at our last DIY Chalk Paint Class that we are going to do it again. Our next class will be on Friday, September 26, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.  The cost is $10 and will cover your painting supplies. You will need to bring a small item to paint – candlestick, picture frame, bowl, candy dish, letter for your door, etc. You can contact the Extension Office to register at 675-2730. However, money should be paid to complete your registration and reserve your spot.  Space is limited.
Spaces are quickly filling up for the Women’s Self Defense and Firearms Familiarization class held at the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville on Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. each day. This class will use the R.A.D. System.
This course focuses on education and awareness. The course includes lecture, discussion and self-defense techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities. Each participant will need to bring an unloaded gun and ammunition – separate from the gun, as well as ear and eye protection.  The cost of the class is $5, which covers light refreshments. Space is limited.  Call the Extension Service at 675-2730 to register.
Plans are being made for the Yalobusha County Extension Service’s Holiday House, which will be Saturday, October 25. We will have vendors specializing in holiday (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s) decorations and gifts. We will also have some wonderful demonstrations and informative programs going on during the day. Entry to the event is free – however we do ask that you bring a canned food item to go towards our Food for Families Food Drive that we do each year with WTVA.          This year we will be teaming with the Coffeeville Chamber of Commerce and have entertainment throughout the day as well as end the day with a concert.
Vendor booth spaces are currently being rented out. The cost of a 12 x 12 booth is $25. Food booths are also available for $35 (food booths include electricity).   If you are interested in renting a booth, contact Allison Coleman at the Extension Office at 675-2730.
The Healthy You Exercise Group meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Extension Office.  Join us for up to 45 minutes of low impact physical activity. If you come, make sure you wear comfortable, cool clothes, good walking shoes and bring some water to drink. The nurse will be here Wednesday, September 17 at 8:45. We will not exercise on Friday, September 19.
The Crochet group will meet on Thursday, Septem-ber 18th at 10 a.m. This group is free and is open to the public.  If you would like to learn to crochet or if you would just like a group to meet with to work on your crocheting then this is the group for you. We hope you will join us.
