Living Well In Yalobusha County

Over 350 People Attended Holiday House

By Pamela Redwine

An interest meeting will be held Monday, November 3 at 10 a.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building for a new program that will start in January called Walk A Weigh. This program will meet once a week for 10-12 weeks and will focus on educating individuals on ways to plan, cook and eat more healthy.
It will also have an exercise component as well. The meeting is to help determine if there is an interest in the community for the program and to determine the best time and date to offer the 10 to 12 week program. If you are interested in the program but are unable to come to the interest meeting please call me at 675-2730 or email me at to let me know your preference.
The MHV is selling $1 raffle tickets for the beautiful landscape painting, painted and donated by Jo Davis.  Raffle tickets can also be purchased from any MHV member or at the MSU-Extension Office in Coffee-ville, where the painting is on display. The drawing will be held at the November 18 MHV meeting. The winner will be notified.
Our 4-Hers did an excellent job decorating their pumpkins for the Decorated Pumpkin Contest. (See picture above).
A special thank you to everyone who helped us choose the Viewer’s Choice Award at the Holiday House this past weekend. The winners in that contest were:
First place was Gracie Summers with the Witch Pumpkin; second place was Meg Daves with the Little Old Lady Pumpkin and third place was Andy Redwine with the Minion Pumpkin.
We still have a couple of spaces available for the upcoming painting class which will be held at the Yalobusha County Extension Service on Friday, November 7 from 6-8 p.m. You will be painting your initial. All supplies will be provided as well as a light meal. Class is limited to 20 adult participants and the registration fee is $20. Call the extension service to register at 675-2730. (Must pay fee to be considered registered for class.)
The Healthy You Exercise Group meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Extension Office. Join us for up to 45 minutes of low impact physical activity. If you come, make sure you wear comfortable, cool clothes, good walking shoes and bring some water to drink.
The adult sewing group “Sewing for Service” will meet on Monday, November 3 at 10 a.m. The group is currently working on wheel chair bags for the nursing home. If you are interested in helping out with this project please join us. We have material and sewing machines, we just need you.
The Crochet group will meet Thursday November 6th at 10 a.m. This group is free and the public is invited to attend.
The Holiday House this weekend was a lot of fun and a great success! Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the Extension Service, the Chamber of Commerce and the vendors. We had over 350 people and we got a great start on our Food for Families Food Drive. If you didn’t get a chance to donate food on Saturday it is not too late. We will be collecting food until December 8.   Remember all the food collected stays in our area.
