The Extension Service has hit the ground, in 2015, running! We have so many great programs coming up this year and we are very excited.
Our Walk A Weigh Program will start on Wednesday, January 14. This is an eight-week weight loss program. Participants will have the opportunity to learn so much helpful information to help them make better nutritional choices. We will also be sampling new recipes and exercising during our weekly sessions.
Pre-registration was required, so if you missed this class, call the Extension Service at 675-2730 and get you name on the waiting list for the next series of classes.
However, in the meantime you could attend our Healthy You Exercise class. This class is free and meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Make sure that you wear cool, comfortable clothes, good walking shoes and bring some water to drink. The exercise class will not meet on Monday, January 19 – as the Extension Service will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
If you would love to go on a trip this year, then join our Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers (MHV) on Tuesday, January 20 for the “Renasant Bank Tours Travel Program.” Find out what programs Renasant Bank has planned for 2015 and take advantage of having the trip planned, reservations made and somebody else driving! In the past, this program has been a community favorite.
If your New Year’s Resolution was to learn something new – how about learning to crochet? We have a wonderful group of ladies that meet twice a month here at the Extension Office. Our Crochet Group – is a laid back group that enjoys sharing patterns and helping each other learn to do new projects that range from baby blankets, to shawls and from beanies, to scarfs – they are all trying new and different things. Yearly dues are $6 and you will need to bring your choice of yarn and hook.
Our Family and Consumer Science 4-H Clubs (Yalobusha Buddies ages 9-18) and (Clover Buds ages 5-8) will be meeting on Thursday, January 22 at 4 p.m. During this meeting we will be making special Valentine cards to give to the residents at the Yalobusha Nursing Home. We hope you will come and join us- we have 130 to make! Please call to let us know you will be attending 675-2730.
For those of you in the Food Service Business or wishing to start a food service, I will be offering the ServSafe Class and Certification Exam on Tuesday, February 24 from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Yalobusha County Extension Service located inside the Multi-Purpose Building. The cost of the class is $135 and registration and fees should be completed by 5 p.m. Friday, January 23.
