Living Well In Yalobusha County

Activities Planned During Spring Break

By Pamela Redwine

Wow, the snow we had last week was beautiful.  And it was enough that the kids….and adults could actually play in it – building snowmen and going for a sleigh ride not to mention a few good snowball fights! I hope your snow days were fun and safe and I hope you did not experience too much damage, especially to your home. Now that we have had our winter, bring on Spring!

The Yalobusha Forestry Association will meet on Thursday, March 5 at 6 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville. The program topic is turkey habitat. A meal will be served and 2015 dues are due. Please call the Extension Office to let us know you will be attending.

Our crochet group will meet on Thursday, March 5, at 10 am. This is a laid back group that enjoys sharing patterns and helping each other learn to do new projects – from baby blankets, to shawls and from beanies to scarfs – they are all trying new and different things.  Yearly dues are $6 and you will need to bring your choice of yarn and hook.

The 4-H Art Contest workday will be Thursday, March 5th from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville. Volunteer, Pat Rodrigue will have all art supplies needed and will be available to assist the children in their drawings. We will be working on entries for the North Mississippi Fish Hatchery 2015 Youth Art Contest. This is a free event and is open to all youth ages 8 to 18.

Healthy You Exercise classes are free and continue to meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Make sure that you wear cool, comfortable clothes, good walking shoes and bring some water to drink. The nurse will be here on Wednesday, March 11 at 9:45, directly after exercise

Next week is spring break week – we have several activities planned for 4-Hers.  If you are at least 8 years old and would like to compete in Project Achievement Day in Moorehead this summer on June 18, you need to come to the Extension Office on Monday, March 9th to begin working on your contest. Also, If you have already attended the Sewing 101 training, you are able to attend the sewing workshop that will be held on Tuesday, March 10 at 1 p.m. The workshop is free, but there is a supply list. Please call the Extension Service to let us know you will be attending and to get the supply list.

The Create Clubs will meet on Tuesday, March 10.  The morning club will meet at 9 a.m .and will be making a fabric tray and the evening club will have their first meeting at 6 p.m. that night and will be making a burlap cross.

If you would like to attend either of these meetings, please contact the Extension Office at 675-2730 to let us know you will be attending and to get your supply list. Each participant is responsible for purchasing all of their own supplies.  The Create Clubs are special interest clubs under the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteer LLC and yearly dues are $6. If you have not already paid your dues, they can be paid at the next meeting.
