Living Well In Yalobusha County

Remaining Art Workshops Are April 23, 30

By Pamela Redwine

On Thursday, April 16, members and volunteers of the Family & Consumer Science 4-H Club got the opportunity to learn a little about Interior Design. Mrs. Shanna Taylor, MSU Extension Agent in Coahoma County was the guest speaker. Mrs. Taylor gave the 4-Hers pointers on how to arrange furniture, select paint, flooring and fabric for a room.

The 4-Hers then used their skills to design Project Boards. Several of the participants will use these for 4-H contests this summer. Our next 4-H meeting will be on Thursday, May 21, at 4 p.m. If you would like more information, please contact the Yalobusha County Extension Service at 675-2730.

Our Sewing for Service Group will meet on Monday, April 27, at 1 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building. Our project will be making tote bags for Blair Batson Children’s Hospital. You can bring colorful, fun, kid-friendly material or you can use ours. We have all the sewing machines, we just need you! We hope to see you Monday!

Our Crochet Group will meet on Thursday, April 30, at 10 a.m. This is a laid back group that enjoys sharing patterns and helping each other learn to do new projects – from baby blankets to shawls and from beanies to scarfs, they are all trying new and different things. Yearly dues are $6 and you will need to bring your choice of yarn and hook.

Our Healthy You exercise classes are free and continue to meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Make sure that you wear cool, comfortable clothes, good walking shoes and bring some water to drink.

The last two 4-H art workshops will be held on Thursday, April 23 and Thursday, April 30 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. During this time youth will be working on entries for the Mississippi 4-H Equine Art contest. Pat Rodrigue will be available to help.

The Yalobusha County Forestry Association will meet on Thursday, April 30. The meeting had been scheduled earlier but the ice and snow prompted organizers to cancel it. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville.  The program topic is Turkey Habitat.  A meal will be served and 2015 dues are due. Call the Extension Office by Tuesday, April 28, to let us know you will be attending.

The Yalobusha County Cattlemen’s Association will meet Thursday, May 7. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville. The program topic is Anaplas-mosis.

The speaker is Dr. Carla Huston from MSU Vet School. A meal will be served. Non-members pay $5 per plate. Please call the Extension Office by Wednesday, May 6, at 675-2730, to let us know you will be attending.
