Bobby Hood Band Performs At Weekend Dance

 The Bobby Hood Band will provide the music for the regular VFW Saturday night dance on May 2. This week the band will include a saxophone. Music will begin at 8 p.m. and continue until midnight. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy dancing, listening to the  music, or just some great fellowship. The dance is held in VFW Post 4100’s Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley.

Arts Council Sets Monthly Meeting Date

            The Water Valley Arts Council will have their monthly meeting Tuesday, May 5, beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Water Valley Main Street Association’s Building at 207 North Main Street. Topics for discussion include: The Art Crawl, Mississippi Writer’s and Poets Historic Markers and more. You don’t have to be a member to come to the meetings. Final Lion’s Club Breakfast Before Summer Break Is Saturday

            The final Lion’s Club pancake breakfast before summer break will be held Saturday, May 2, from 6:30 to 9 a.m. The breakfast will resume on Saturday, August 1, during Watermelon Carnival weekend.

            The menu will include all you care to eat of pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee. Breakfast will be served in the Lion’s Depot Building, located on the corner of Main Street. and Blackmur Dr. Also available for sale Saturday will be the very tasty Lion’s cheese.

            “Come out and enjoy a delicious meal, some great fellowship, and pick up some good cheese,” stated Lion Ernie Aune.

North Mississippi Lakes Iris Society Has Show In Charleston

The North Mississippi Lakes Iris Society, an affiliate of the American Iris Society, will have their Twentieth Annual Show Saturday, April 25, from 1-3 p.m. The Show will be held in the Mississippi State Extension Building, located at 202 South Market Street in Charleston. The Show is open to the public and admission is free.

Water Valley Ambassadors Schedule Monthly Meeting

            The Water Valley Chamber Ambassadors will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, at the Chamber office.

YHS Yard Sale Rescheduled To June 6

            If you have resalable or slightly used items to donate for the rescheduled Yalobusha Historical Society yard sale on Saturday, June 6. Please call Joy Tippit 662-563-2607. The Yalobusha Historical Society yard sale and bake sale will be held in the YHS parking lot on Depot Street.

            The proceeds go toward the maintenance and insurance for the YHS headquarters, the former Coffeeville Presbyterian Church.

Deadline To Register For June ServSafe Class Is May 8

            ServSafe Food Certification Class will be taught June 9 and 10, beginning at 9 a.m. The certification exam will begin around 3 p.m. on the 10th and should be completed by 5 p.m. The class will be held at the Grenada County Extension Service.

            The cost of the course is $135 and the deadline to register is May 8. Call Pamela Redwine at the Yalobusha County Extension Office at 662-675-2730 for additional details and to register.

Ladies Auxiliary Plan Poppy Drive

            The Ladies Auxiliary of the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) will have their annual Buddy Poppy Drive Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Poppy Drive benefits disabled veterans. Auxiliary members will be stationed near the Depot (intersection of Main and Blackmur Dr., at the three-way stop (intersection of Main and Central) and on Main Street in front of Turnage Drug Store, to accept your donations.

Valley City Lodge Members Will Gather On May 7

            Valley City Lodge No. 402 F&AM will have its next stated communication on Thursday, May 7, in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle. All members are hereby reminded that the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and are requested to be present.

Order Of Eastern Star Plan Pot Luck Meal At Monthly Meeting

            Water Valley Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star, will have their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 12 in the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle, beginning with a pot luck at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will begin at 7:30. Members are asked to make an effort to attend and support your local chapter during this New Year.
