Dems Host Rally In Oakland

            The Democratic Party Committee of Yalobusha County will host a political rally Saturday, June 6, beginning at 2 p.m. The location for the rally is 121 Cherry Street at the Davis Chapel Masonic Temple in Oakland. Refreshments will be served.


Candidates From Three Counties Invited To Rally

            Rosebloom Recreational Park will have a political rally Saturday, June 6, beginning a 2 p.m. All political candidates for local and state offices who will represent Tallahatchie, Grenada, or Yalobusha Counties are invited to attend. Award-Winning Author Will Discuss Landscape Plants

            Dr. Robert (Bob) Brzuszek, award-winning author from Mississippi State University, will discuss “Selecting Landscape Plants” on Saturday morning, June 6, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will be held at the First Presbyterian Education Building.  

            Celebrating National Garden Week, the event is sponsored by The Town & Country Garden Club and is presented at no charge.  “Come one, come all to hear Dr. Brzuszek.  He is an entertaining and informative speaker,” said Mary Ann Wood, event chairman.  “He will answer questions following his talk.”

Historical Society Announces Annual Fundraiser

            The Yalobusha Historical Society yard sale and bake sale is scheduled Saturday, June 6, starting at  7:30 a.m.  in the parking lot on Depot Street in Coffeeville. The proceeds go toward the maintenance and insurance for the YHS headquarters, the former Coffeeville Presbyterian Church.


Benefit Scheduled For Burns

            A benefit is scheduled for Wanda Gordon Burns on Saturday, May 30, from noon until 6 p.m., in the blue Odd Fellows’ Bingo Building, located behind Shuffield’s Shop, off Blackmur Drive

            In September 2014, Wanda was diagnosed with Myelodysplactic syndrome (MDS)—a rare cancer of the bone marrow. Patients with this type of cancer typically need blood transfusions and/or chemotherapy treatments to survive. Barbeque plates will be sold for $10 each (eat in or carry out). Other events of the fund raiser include a silent auction/live auction, 50/50 raffle, and door prizes.

            There will also be live entertainment and kid’s activities throughout the day. Come out and show your support for Wanda and enjoy a fun-filled day of food and more.

DES Offers Free Summer Meals

            Free meals are offered again this year at Davidson Elementary School for all children, ages 18 and under. The meals will be served May 26 – June 3, and June 5 to June 19.

            Meals will be served from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm each day. Water Valley School District encourages all children to eat a balanced meal with vegetables, fruit, grains, meat, and milk.  

            Adults may eat with their children for $3, which covers the cost of the meal.
