Congratulations to our MHV members who competed in the Cultural Arts Contests, which was held May 18-20 during MHV State Council at Mississippi State University. The ladies competed against MHV members in 81 other counties. Mary Fuquay won first place and Best of Show with her hand-knitted beaded scarf.  Jean Smith, Sue Hughes, Jo Davis and Pat Rodrigue each brought home awards in their categories (check out our Facebook page at MSU-Yalobusha County Extension Service to see individual pictures and awards).  All together, Yalobusha County won one best overall, nine first place ribbons and two second place ribbons. Great job ladies!

Our crochet group will meet on Thursday, June 4, at 10 a.m. This is a laid back group that enjoys sharing patterns and helping each other learn to do new projects – from baby blankets, to shawls and from beanies to scarfs – they are all trying new and different things.  Yearly dues are $6 and you will need to bring your choice of yarn and hook.

Our Morning Create MHV Club will meet on Tuesday, June 9 at 9 a.m.  The leader will be Jo Davis and the project is a decorative vase. Davis will provide all of the supplies.  The cost is $3 and can be paid the morning of the program.  Please call the Extension office at 675-2730 to reserve your supplies by Friday, June 5.  There will be no extra supplies available.

Our basic home canning classes will be offered at the Extension office this summer.  The classes will cover the basics of home canning including equipment, hot water bath processing, pressure canning, and other aspects of home canning.  Participants will participate in hands on activities and will actually prepare and process canned products.  Participants will take home samples of the products that they prepare. Registration is required. The classes are limited to five participants per class. Call the Extension office to register at 675-2730.

June’s canning class will focus on canning green beans using a pressure canner. The class will be held  Wednesday, June 17 at at 1 p.m. at the Yalobusha County Extension Service in the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville. The cost is $5 per participant

Our Healthy You exercise classes are free and meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9  to 9:45 a.m. Make sure to wear cool, comfortable clothes, good walking shoes and bring some water to drink. The nurse will be here on Wednesday, June 10 at 8:45 a.m. to take glucose and blood pressure.

A Floral Design & Decorating Program with Glenda Gordon from G.G’s Flower’s & Gifts in Water Valley will be held at the Multi-Purpose Building in Coffeeville on Tuesday, June 16th at 10 a.m. This program is sponsored by the United Y.C.
