Flag Retirement Ceremony Planned On November 13
Worn-out tattered American flags will be retired properly on Sunday, November 13, at 2 p.m. at Oxford City Pavilion (old armory) on University Avenue. The Flag Retirement Ceremony will be sponsored by David Reese Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution with assistance from Girl Scout Troop #13213.
“Respecting our American flag is the goal of this project,” said Lucia Holloway, DAR member. “Please call me at 473-1380 if you have a flag that you would like to be part of this ceremony.”
Garden Club Sponsors Essay Contest For High School Students
“We Need Pollinators” is the theme of an essay contest for high school students, grades 9-12, sponsored by The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc. The deadline to submit a 600 to 700 word entry is Dec. 1. The prize is $200. City Hall, Departments Will Close For Veteran’s Day
The City of Water Valley’s departments and city hall will be closed Friday, November 11, 2016 to observe Veteran’s Day. Friday’s Commercial route will run as usual.
House Of Prayer Church Will Have Food Give-A-Way On Nov. 19
The House of Prayer Church in Water Valley will have a can food give-a-way on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the band stand on Main Street. The public is invited to come out and pick up a bag of goodies and enjoy live music.
VFW’s Weekend Activities Include Friday Bingo, Saturday Dance
Activities for the weekend at VFW Post 4100, located at 11535, west of Water Valley include bingo on Friday night, November 11. Play will begin at 7 p.m., with the doors opening at 6. Providing music for the regular Saturday night dance on November 6 will be Bobby Hood and Sandra Martin. The music begins at 8 p.m. and concludes at midnight.
Holiday Meal Will Be Served At American Legion Post
The American Legion will have a turkey and ham dinner for members and prospective members, wives and families, on the Thursday before Thanksgiving, November 17.
Gospel Music Jubilee Schedule At Gore Springs Community Center
A Gospel Music Jubilee will be held at the Gore Springs Community Center November 12, beginning at 6 p.m. Admission will be $5. Featured will be the Slaton Family, the Kinsmen and Homeward Bound. A concession stand with cheese burgers, hamburgers, hotdogs, and sausage dogs, homemade desserts, popcorn, drinks and coffee will be open. Come out and enjoy a night of good gospel singing.
Blackmur Library Will Have Christmas Tree Decorating Party
Blackmur Memorial Library will have its Charlie Brown Christmas Tree decorating party Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 4-5 p.m. Parents are invited to bring their kids to the library to help decorate the Christmas tree.
